Big congratulations to Curtis Arnold and Harrison Swink for their performance at the VHSL Class 5 State Wrestling Tournament!
Both wrestlers battled all the way to the podium and finished 6th in the state in their respective weight classes.
• Harrison Swink – 113 lb – 6th Place
• Curtis Arnold – 285 lb – 6th Place

SPRING SPORTS TRYOUTS BEGIN MONDAY!

Spring athletics are right around the corner, and we’re excited to welcome student-athletes back to the field, track, and stadium. Below you’ll find important information about eligibility requirements, required meetings, and tryout schedules for the upcoming spring sports season.

Athletic Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to participate in spring sports, student-athletes must meet all of the following requirements:

A current VHSL physical must be uploaded to the Athletic Portal.
Physicals must be dated after May 1, 2025.
All physicals must be uploaded no later than February 20, 2026.
Please note: The Athletic Portal will close on this date.
Students must have passed the equivalent of five (5) courses during the fall semester.
Students must be enrolled in the equivalent of five (5) courses for the spring semester.
Grade-level participation guidelines:
8th-grade students may try out for JV or middle school teams.
6th and 7th-grade students may participate only on middle school teams.
Practices and Team Communication

Practices for all sports will begin daily following tryouts. Coaches will share sport-specific calendars and schedules with athletes and families once teams are formed.

Mandatory Athlete & Parent Meeting

A mandatory Athlete and Parent Meeting will be held for all Varsity and Junior Varsity spring sports:

Date: Monday, March 2
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: PGHS Auditorium
Sport-specific meetings will take place immediately following the general session.

Spring Sports Tryout Schedule

Student-athletes are expected to attend all tryout sessions in their entirety. Any exceptions must be approved by the head coach in advance.

Baseball:

Varsity and JV tryouts will occur Monday February 23rd through Wednesday February 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the PGHS Baseball Field. (8th graders are encouraged to try out for JV and will be sent to middle school tryouts as determined by the coaching staff).
Middle school tryouts will occur from Wednesday February 25th through Friday February 27th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at JEJ Moore Middle School.
Softball:

JV And Varsity Softball, 8th - 12th grade: Feb 23rd and 24th at PGHS Softball field from 5:30 - 7:00pm.
Middle School Softball, 6th - 8th grade: Feb 25th and 26th at JEJ Moore, 3:00 - 4:30pm.
Boys Soccer:

JV and Varsity tryouts will occur Monday February 23rd through Wednesday February 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the PGHS Stadium.
Girls Soccer:

JV and Varsity tryouts will occur Monday February 23rd through Wednesday February 25th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the PGHS Stadium.
Outdoor Track:

Monday February 23rd through Wednesday February 25th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the PGHS Stadium Track.

Congratulations to all our Royals that participated in the region 5C Indoor Track Meet!
Lawrence Hewlett 55M - 1st place!
Jedidiah Lockhart 500M - 1st place!
Will Bostic High Jump - 1st place!
And our 4x200 relay team of Jedidiah Lockhart, Noah Pope, Tillman Smithbey and Tison Trimble brought home 2nd place honors! All of these champions advance to the Class 5 State Indoor Meet on March 2nd at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. GO ROYALS!
