Cheney Reservoir is currently about 9.25 inches above the lowest point observed in 2024, which occurred in late October ahead of record-breaking rain in November. Frank Waugh, CBM KAKE tells us that since the beginning of the year, the level has steadily dropped.

This came from City of Wichita public works director: Only one good thing has come from this drought and it’s been the opportunity to make repairs to the Cheney Dam. Strategic planning ahead of time allowed this to happen. Let’s hope we can wrap it up right before the big rains come.

“Happy New Year! As we welcome in 2025 and celebrate our 60th year as a sailing association, be sure to resolve to come and join us this year for volunteer work days, special meetings, and as many social events as possible! It’s going to be a great year for the NSA!

It was brought to our attention that, Kevin, the owner of O'Brien's Marina was in a bad accident a couple weeks ago while cleaning debris out of the water around the marina boat slips. He's undergone several surgeries already and still has a long road ahead with more scheduled this month.
Please keep Kevin and Stephanie in your thoughts and prayers during this time. If you'd like to show your support, stop by the marina and buy some merch!

Sailing in Kansas with Ninnescah Sailing Association!

Get active this summer! Join Ninnescah Sailing Association (NSA) at Cheney Lake with activities you and your whole family will love.

LEARN TO SAIL WITH NSA. NSA has been teaching adults and kids to sail for nearly 40 years. Our Adult and Junior Learn to Sail classes were developed with the U.S. Sailing Association, and are offered every summer. NSA offers multiple class sessions. All Learn to Sail graduates can purchase their 1st year of NSA membership for 1/2 price! For more class details and to register online, visit https://www.sailninnescah.org/learn-to-sail.

SAILING ACTIVITIES. For adults that like a little friendly competition, the NSA hosts after-work racing every Wednesday evening from late April to October. All sailboats and crew are welcome to participate – novice and seasoned veterans alike. For the kids, NSA also has a very active junior sailing program, where your kids can hone their sailing skills during the summer at week-long sailing camps, and participate in local and regional junior regattas.

WHAT IS NSA? The NSA is a not-for-profit, open membership sailing organization dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing. Founded in 1965, the NSA has grown into one of the largest, and best equipped sailing centers in this part of the world. Its home, Cheney Lake (just a short drive west of Wichita), has also been rated one of the top ten sailing lakes in the USA – having hosted numerous national championship sailing regattas, Olympic Games and Pan Am Games trials, and attracting some of the world’s top amateur athletes. Visitors often refer to us as “An Oasis on the Prairie”.

EXPLORE OUR AFTERDECK. NSA’s first-class facilities include the “Afterdeck,” a three level log cabin/activity center, 160 slips for in-water sailboat docking, boat ramps, boat crane, moorings, picnic & camping areas, a playground, guest docks, on-shore boat storage yards, two beautiful beaches and bath and shower facilities.
