Mother’s Day weekend was a fun one for the teams that played and some lifelong memories were definitely made! The 11U Generals started on Friday night under the lights at The Ark and were hitting on all cylinders. They had a decisive win and their pitchers threw a combined no-hitter! The other big story for them was they got their first team home run with an absolute monster shot by Hudson Davis. While they were playing, the 8U Recruits were traveling to North Carolina for their first ever travel tournament on Saturday. Those boys didn’t go down there to mess around either. After the fun ended with their team dinner and Friday night pool party, they showed up on the fields Saturday and went 1-1 against two tough opponents earning their first out-of-state win. They played in the Top Gun Battle of the Roses 8U kid pitch tournament🌹 and made their mama’s proud! The 11U Commanders took the field Saturday as well in Richmond. Although they came up short in both games, they went against some stiff competition and played some of the best baseball they have ever played. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing Core moms out there! Thank you for sharing your weekend with us at the ball fields. On to a tough week of practice and then all the boys will grab their lumber for the wood bat tournament next weekend! 🩵⚾️

They did it AGAIN! Winning a championship in back to back weeks is not easy, and certainly not common. But the 9U Core Rangers said they are not only going to do it, but they are going to do it without a key injured player and without a moment of hesitation. The Rangers dominated their opponents going 3-0 on the day and outscoring them 39-11 in USSSA’s Diamond Clash. Their bats were alive with 23 hits, but once again, their defense and pitching told the story. They only committed 7 errors in 3 games. The pitchers combined for 63% strikes, (79% by Eliot 🤯). Of 65 batters faced, they struck out 18 and only walked 6 in 3 games! While this win is a total team win, Asher deserves a shout out for throwing 4 innings for the championship averaging and efficient 15 pitches per inning and leading the game in hits, RBIs and runs scored. Congrats to the Rangers on another big one! While the Rangers were doing their thing, some other team history was taking place with the 10U Raiders as well. They went 1-1 on the day and had their first team win! Way to go fellas! The 8U Cannons did their thing and showed great resilience with another play-up win erasing a 7-run deficit to edge their opponent 12-11 and to go 1-1 on the day. The 11U Commanders bounced back from and tough morning loss to also go 1-1 on the day with a 9-0 shut out. In their second game, they only allowed 1 hit and didn’t commit a single error. More impressively, on the day, they had only 3 strikeouts in 48 plate appearances (none looking). On to the new week where the 8U Recruits are preparing for their first out-of-town tournament! 🩵⚾️

CONGRATULATIONS to the 9U Core Rangers for taking the USSSA Touch The Bases Flight 2 Championship! These boys battled until 9:30pm after facing a day of rain, wind and cold to earn their first championship in dramatic fashion. They trailed in the championship game until the last inning and scored when it counted. Their pitching was the story, and at the end of the day is what got them the upset win. The Rangers pitchers were lights out with 20 strike outs against only 11 walks, only 7 earned runs and throwing 58% strikes over their 3 games. What a night for them! While they were cleaning house on one diamond, their 8U Cannons brothers were causing their own havoc in the lower 9U division right next to them. The Cannons bats were hot scored 35 runs in 2 games and coming up one run short of making their first championship. Impressive play-up baseball again by the Cannons! The 11U Commanders were in a weather nightmare in Rocky Mount, NC and drew the #1 and #2 seeds in pool during the Top Gun Spring World Series. The score didn’t show it, but these boys played the best they ever have. Sadly, their Sunday games were canceled, where they were poised to take the bronze bracket. Lastly, the 10U Raiders traveled up to Fredericksburg for their first scrimmage and boy, they went up there to play! They did great, scoring 18 runs in 2 games and started their road to tournament play. Congrats to all of the Core teams on a hard fought weekend of play! Another hard week of practice and it will be time to get back at it! 🩵⚾️

A HUGE shout out to our little men, the 8U Core Recruits for not only winning their first game ever, but also their second and winning runner up in the 8U Division of the Ark Complex Jericho Challenge! The boys battled 3 great teams from the tidewater area of VA for almost 5 straight hours of baseball. As many of you know, our 8U teams have played up to the 9U level in all of their games to date so they can play kid pitch. Today, the Recruits played against kids their age and showed they will be a force in the fall. About 100 miles east of the Recruits, the 11U Generals were having their own set of firsts in Virginia Beach. The team played in the USSSA East Coast Championships with a VERY tough group of teams. This was the Generals first multiple day tournament, their first travel tournament and their first WIN outside to Richmond. The Generals won a very tight 5-4 game against a formidable opponent that went a full 6 innings. The placed 7th overall and took home some memories that will last a lifetime. Congrats to all on a hard fought weekend! 🩵⚾️

Wins and losses didn’t tell the full story of this past weekend. The 11U Commanders continued their tight score play this weekend and were in another 2 tight matchups. The 11U Generals split and had another close run to a championship game. The 9U Ranger also split and beat a team that they lost to in a scrimmage only a few weeks ago. The 8U Cannons also split and took another play-up victory. The 8U Recruits battled again with the big boys and were literally within one run of their first big win. Nonetheless, all of the Core teams were in every game. Battling. Giving their all. That’s what we ask of them and thats what they gave us. On to the Ark this weekend for the 8U Recruits and a trip to Virginia Beach, VA for the 11U Core Generals for their 2-day tournament on the beach. Great job this weekend and good luck to the Recruits and Generals this weekend! 🩵⚾️

Teaching the Next Generation… Coach Mooney and his boys came up short in today’s game against Manchester, but as he has always taught us, losing is learning. So today when the game was over, he took all the Core boys that attended and let them be a part of his post game speech. A big thank you to Coach Mooney, his coaches and his players for giving these unique experiences to our young ball players. 🩵⚾️

Core Crusher Club Alert! 🧡💪🏼 Congrats to Core Commanders player, Emmett Hall for making his THIRD appearance in the Core Crusher Club!! Emmett not only put this one over the fence, but he also had a walk off double in the same game for the big win in North Carolina. Emmett is the definition of working hard and deserves everything the ex*****on of his CORE values of Commitment, Ownership and Effort is giving him. We also have our first honorary member of the Core Crusher Club, Lincoln Barnett! Lincoln has been guest playing for the Commanders team from the ZT Mid-Atlantic Prospects for years. He is a part of us and will always be a one we are proud to wear our uniform with. Lincoln hit his first dinger in a Core uniform this weekend and we are excited to have his name added to our list. Congrats Emmett and Lincoln!! 🧡⚾️
