Moss Sports Performance "Building a Foundation"
Our Physical Development Program focuses on improving our athletes' physical ability, while reducing the risk of injury.

The greatest responsibility and the best thing a transformational coach can do for their athletes is to teach them how to stay fit and strive to
develop each individual physically while reducing the risk of injury. Primary goals are to improve flexibility /mobility; dynamic balance; stability, posture and overall strength. Training sessions may utilize calisthenics, bodyweight exercises, bands,

medicine balls, hex bars, dumbbells and barbells to develop strong and agile students. Our philosophy is based on the Long Term Physical Development of every student athlete. This is a process that emphasizes the role of quality preparation on performance over the long term. The program must be athlete centered, coach driven and administratively supported. The essence of long-term physical development (LTPD) is thoughtful and purposeful preparation of the athlete for the demands of sport. It’s not just about bigger, stronger, faster. It’s about deliberate practice and building a foundation of physical literacy. Just as we develop numeracy and literacy as the building blocks of academic education so we must raise the profile of the building blocks of health and well-being. The answer lies in developing an all-round movement vocabulary for all our young people from which they can choose to use the permanent skill-set to either remain posturally efficient or to embark on a journey to high performance. By creating a safe, positive, yet challenging environment with an emphasis on quality coaching and quality planning, I strive to reduce injuries and increase performance while building confidence throughout an athlete’s career. If a house is built on a poor foundation it will have constant structural issues; therefore, build a strong foundation. The goal of any Long Term Physical Development program should be to keep the physical competency one step ahead of the technical skills. The student-athlete must earn the right to progress.
