So not to tell you all my private business or TMI, but I have been fitness driven since I was about 18, and have had some pretty significant injuries and surgeries - those two things combined have me riddled with arthritis. Some of the symptoms I was dealing with more recently led me to go thru all the testing to find out what type. Did you know there are more than 100 types of arthritis??? I've had quite a long list of MRI's over the last 10 years or so from head to toe (I tend to do them in large clusters at a time 😆🤪) and no matter what part of the body gets the MRI, I always here “oh, and you’ve got arthritis there too”. After all of the testing though, nothing came back as a specific type which often just means good ole osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is sort of a double edged sword, you get it if you’re active, and you get it if you’re not. Being active, injuries, surgeries, etc., etc., it’s no surprise. Also, a tidbit about me, I really prefer to live a holistic lifestyle. I don’t want prescriptions and doc visits pushed on me…so I use exercise and nutrition to manage as much of my life as possible and the other stuff when I need to reach for a little more help. My doc actually referred me to a holistic rheumatologist for these tests (which surprised AND excited me!).
My own situations and experiences or conditions that come to me frequently as a trainer are what drive my education (I am an Arthritis Fitness Specialist). A specific arthritis diagnosis allows you to know the best treatment plan for YOU. The old saying “motion is lotion” is so TRUE. Nutrition is VITAL. I know the little list of foods (and beverages) that wreak havoc in my body and cause the flare ups. Thinking that exercise and nutrition don’t make a difference or that they don't have a direct effect on you is not the best thinking. Another thing…arthritis pain can affect you mentally and emotionally…and really make daily tasks difficult and bring you down. You are not alone…and there are some natural, daily helps that came make your days better. If you are feeling dangerously low, please tell someone.
