Our classes are taught in a safe, supportive, and family-friendly environment. We provide karate training programs that help students develop unity of mind, body, and technique while building confidence, discipline, respect, and strong martial arts fundamentals. Our number one goal is to maintain a positive training atmosphere where students of all ages and experience levels can grow both physically and mentally through traditional Okinawan karate.

🥋 Come check out Kilowatt’s 11th Anniversary Party!

We’re happy to help spread the word about Kilowatt Brewing’s 11th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 12 in Kearny Mesa!

The event runs from 4:00–9:00 PM and will feature the Convoy Nights Market, entertainment, special guests, and a variety of demonstrations and activities throughout the evening.

🥋 As part of the festivities, Alex Do of Ryukyu Japan Karate Do and Merly Ortiz of the UCSD Okinawan Karate Club will also be coming together to represent Ryuei Ryu USA with a karate demonstration!

The exact demonstration time is still being finalized.

Please note that there will be no classes this Saturday, August 22, as Ryukyu Japan Karate Do will be hosting the Ryuei Ryu Black Belt Test.

We would like to wish all Black Belt candidates the very best as they take this important step in their karate journey. Years of dedication, perseverance, and training have led to this moment, and we wish each candidate the very best on their examination.

Congratulations to our competitors for proudly representing Ryukyu Japan Karate Do at the 2026 Nikkei Games in Long Beach!

While we're proud of these accomplishments, the true value of this tournament extended far beyond the medals earned. It was another opportunity to gain experience, build confidence, and continue growing as karateka.

This event was especially valuable because it gave our competitors the opportunity to rely more on their own preparation and decision-making. While Alex and I were serving as officials throughout the day, we were still available whenever guidance was needed. Learning to trust their training, adapt under pressure, and perform with greater independence is an important step in becoming a well-rounded competitor.

Success isn't measured only by the medals earned, but also by the lessons learned, the confidence gained, and the courage to step onto the competition floor and give your very best. Every tournament is another step toward becoming a better karateka.

Congratulations to all three competitors, and thank you for representing Ryukyu Japan Karate Do with respect, perseverance, and pride.

To help our students stay comfortable while continuing to train safely, T-shirts may be worn instead of the gi top during class.

Please remember:
🥋 Gi pants are still required.
💧 Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated.
😃 Come ready to train and have fun!

Official Ryukyu Japan Karate Do T-shirts are encouraged, and we'll be opening another T-shirt order soon for anyone interested.

🥋 Representing Ryukyu Japan Karate Do & Team USA at the 14th WUKF World Championships 🇺🇸

What an incredible experience for our athletes competing against some of the best karate competitors from around the world in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

We are proud of Alex Do and Xavi Nguyen for representing Ryukyu Japan Karate Do, Ryuei Ryu USA, and Team USA with determination, humility, and respect throughout the tournament.

Their results are something to celebrate, but even more important is the hard work, discipline, and perseverance they demonstrated on and off the competition floor. Experiences like these help shape not only stronger competitors, but stronger martial artists.

Congratulations to both athletes on an outstanding World Championship performance! We look forward to bringing these experiences home and continuing to grow together.
