Update: she was found safe! Please remove any photos for privacy. Thank you for your help sharing.

Has anyone seen this Vermont woman? She’s missing! I hope we can help her get home safely. Please share this post or others about her on as many social media accounts as you can. Black women and girls are highly likely to go missing and not be looked for adequately. That is NOT Vermont. We are a mostly white state but we care about all Vermonters no matter their skin color, so let’s bring this lady home to her family. Let’s not let her become another statistic. Please share as widely as you’re able. I got this picture from WCAX but if you can get pictures that resemble her then do what you’ve gotta do. Just make sure you’re sharing pictures and not just links! Let’s do our part to make it as easy as possible to recognize her.

Have you seen this woman? She’s a Vermonter. I need to ask you to do a huge favor for me. Black women and girls represent more than a third of missing people. Black women are not a third of the population though… What does that tell you? Let’s not lets this woman become another statistic, that’s not how we do it in Vermont. Even though VT is the second-whitest state, that’s really cuz it’s cold here y’all. Vermont has been working overtime these last few years to show all BIPOC people that they belong here. Do not let her become another statistic! Vermonters take care of one another, no matter what color skin they have.

Come together and share this woman’s picture on all of your social media accounts. I got this one from WCAX. Share her face so that it will be super easy to recognize her, please! 🙏🏽 a link is great also but saving this picture to your photos and posting it is going to be the easiest way to ensure that her face sticks in everyone’s mind. Please help.

Whomp whomp, carless again! After a couple of years of headaches with this car as it experienced multiple mechanical failures, it all comes to close. The Friday before last my wheel bearing finally went out (even though I had just replaced it in February) and my wheel literally came off while I was driving. Jamie said it was “the scariest thing that’s ever happened” to him 🥺 (if that’s the worst you got kid, that ain’t too bad ☺️). My insurance decided to total it based on the record of repairs etc. I’m glad to get out from under the loan, but certainly feeling a little uneasy about the lack of transportation for the foreseeable future. Bye bye car, thanks for the memories.

Hoofed it to castleton and got picked up by enterprise there. Thanks for those who’ve helped/offered.

This year I will not be participating in Mile-A-Day-March due to having a gender-affirming surgery next Tuesday. Mile-A-Day-March, OR MADM as I've called it, is an initiative to get out and run each day during the month of March for at least one mile per day! It's a lot of fun, a great way to set a short term goal that feels really good to accomplish, and an introduction to a regular movement practice. I have bottom surgery scheduled for 3/5/24 and it requires me to be practically immobile for 3 days, and definitely not to run for at least 6 weeks. My previous surgical recoveries tell me I likely won't feel good to run until at early May. It's a bummer to not keep up this tradition I have enjoyed for so long, but maybe I will be feeling well enough in May, and it could still be !

However, for any of you who have been curious to try - why not now? Why not this year? Even if you missed today, you could still get practically all of it. I'm happy to support you on your journey if running each day this month is something that would work well for you. It has been a huge pleasure for me the past 2 years and I'd love to enjoy your journey while I have to sit mine out.

Diahanne Lucas was kind enough to share this research in a group I belong to. Everything below the hashtags is not my writing! Thank that lovely woman for enlightening us.

This echoes my own research - I was hired as a consultant in 2022 to conduct research into BIPOC-owned businesses in Rutland County Vermont. I was only able to find 31 across the whole county, and at the same time, was hosting Lakes Region Women in Business Mixers which regularly had around 25 different attendees (all women/femme-identifying businesses in the Poultney area).

There are not nearly as many Black-owned businesses across the country, and there is not enough representation across industries and even in diversity amongst business owners (gender diversity, diverse levels of educational attainment, etc)

**Pew Research Center Provides Insight into Share of Black-Owned Businesses in the United States**

The Pew Research Center has recently conducted research on the status of Black-owned businesses in the United States.

Through analyzing results from the 2022 Annual Business Survey from the United States Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation, the Pew Research Center found that Black-owned firms make up only 3 percent of American businesses, compared to the 85 percent share of White-owned businesses. Additionally, Black-owned firms recorded just over 1 percent of the gross revenue of the surveyed businesses, compared to White-owned firms, which earned 92 percent of the survey’s gross revenue.

The study found that 28 percent of Black-owned business were in the health care and social assistance sector, making Black-owned companies 7 percent of all businesses in the health care industry. Professional, scientific, and technical services had the next highest share, with 14 percent of Black-owned companies centered in this industry. Additionally, Black-owned companies across all industries tended to be small businesses, with 66 percent consisting of less than 10 employees and 16 percent reporting no employees.

The states with the most numbers of Black-owned businesses were Florida, California, and Georgia. However the areas with the largest share of Black-owned businesses were the District of Columbia with 15 percent, Georgia with 8 percent, and Maryland with 8 percent. Of the Black business owners surveyed, the majority were men, making up 53 percent of respondents. Black business owners were more likely to be middle-aged, with 49 percent in the 35 to 54 age group. Additionally, 61 percent of Black business owners had some kind of post-secondary education, either a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.

When asked why they started their own business, Black business owners cited multiple factors that contributed to their decision. Some of the popular responses included the opportunity to earn more income, be their own boss, create the best outlet for their ideas and services, and balance their personal and professional lifestyles.
