APACHES DOMINATE CHARLESTON
POTTSVILLE — The Pottsville Apaches mercy-ruled 48-7 the Charleston Tigers on Friday at John Needham Stadium.
The Apaches (2-0) led 28-0 after the first quarter and 41-0 at halftime. Pottsville added another touchdown in the third, with the Tigers scoring in the fourth quarter to set the final score.
Cort Johnson drew first blood with an 18-yard run with 7:00 in the first. Kai Mahan scored next on a six-yard run with 5:29 on the clock. Then, Penn Helton scored on a 52-yard run. Eli Morris scored the final touchdown of the first quarter with 1:01 on the clock. Jhostin Molina added the PAT on each touchdown.
Molina kicked a 28-yard field goal with 8:42 in the second quarter. Then, Penn Helton scored on a 46-yard run with 6:13 in the half. Molina kicked a 36-yard field goal to set the halftime score.
Johnson scored on a 9-yard run with 7:39 in the third quarter to end Pottsville's scoring spree.
Johnson finished the game 1-for-2 for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Helton had 107 yards on three carries and two touchdowns. Kai Mahan had 36 yards on five carries and a touchdown. Johnson rushed for 22 yards on four carries and two touchdowns.
The Apaches travel to Harmony Grove on Sept. 19.
