Self Defense America - Potsdam Offering martial arts instruction in Combat Hapkido and Taekwondo for adults and youth in Potsdam now. Our head instructor is Grandmaster Robert Gray.

We are members of the International Combat Hapkido Federation and Independent Taekwondo Association. Self Defense America - Potsdam is a martial arts school offering training in Combat Hapkido and Taekwondo for both adults and youth. We have a beautiful school with a matted floor and lots of safety gear. Our instructors are experienced and certified to teach these arts. He has been involved in the

martial arts for many years and is very well respected across the nation. He trained under Grandmaster Sam Kim for many years and was a school owner/operator for Taekwondo schools in Dekalb and Potsdam in the early 1990s. In the early 1990s, he expanded his training into Combat Hapkido under Grandmaster (and founder) John Pellegrini of of the International Combat Hapkido Federation. Eventually Grandmaster Gray moved his Taekwondo program to the Independent Taekwondo Association (ITA) under GM Pellegrini as well. Over the years, we have maintained our Combat Hapkido and Taekwondo programs over various sites, including Potsdam and Winthrop (as Adirondack Martial Arts), and now again in Potsdam. We offer training and belt testing in Combat Hapkido (under the ICHF) and Taekwondo (under the ITA).

13June2026 Self Defense America Potsdam held a rank test for Taekwondo youth and Combat Hapkido adults. Black Belts did maintenance tests and demos. Two students tested for 1st geup (next test us black belt) and Master Mark Wood tested for 6th Dan Combat Hapkido. Everyone did extremely well! Congrats to all.
Test board was composed of GM Robert Gray, Senior Master Thomas Morrison, Master Mark Wood, Instructor Larry Holly , Instructor Mike Michael Agen and Assistant Instructor Zane Gardner
