Why does gymnastics take so long?

Because we’re not just teaching skills—we’re building athletes.

Every drill has a purpose. Every correction matters. Every repetition builds something bigger than the next trick.

Strong technique. Body awareness. Confidence. Consistency. Discipline.

Those things don’t happen overnight.

Sometimes parents wonder why we don’t move athletes up as soon as they have “the skills.” The answer is simple: our goal isn’t to create athletes who can do a skill once. Our goal is to develop athletes who can perform it safely, confidently, and consistently.

The athletes who stay patient and trust the process are usually the ones who end up accomplishing things they never imagined.

Progress may feel slow today…

But one day, you’ll look back and realize every step was worth it.

🚨 The Biggest Mistake I See Parents—And Sometimes Coaches—Make

Wanting to rush the basics.

Every parent gets excited about the big skills.

Back handsprings.
Back tucks.
Giants.
Layouts.

And I get it. Those are the exciting moments.

But here’s the truth…

The gymnasts who become the strongest, safest, and most successful aren’t the ones who rush to the next skill.

They’re the ones who master the basics.

Every tight handstand.

Every straight body.

Every pointed toe.

Every controlled landing.

Those “boring” basics become the foundation for everything that comes next.

When a coach asks a gymnast to repeat a drill for the 100th time, it isn’t because they aren’t progressing.

It’s because we’re building a gymnast who won’t just learn the skill…

They’ll own it.

The basics aren’t slowing them down.

They’re building them up.
