Al Sherman is one of the best in the tracking world, I can't say it any better than he does. And if you are wondering Hank and I have followed a drone twice and found deer the drones could not. Also note drones ARE NOT legal in New York.
UPDATE: I’ve turned down the commenting on this post. It’s become a distraction. And yes, I realize I started it by writing the post.
The people I track for work hard for their dollar. My motivation was purely to keep them from wasting money. Believe that or not. I know my own heart.
To be clear, I have no doubt that someday technology will make tracking dogs obsolete. Possibly even in my lifetime. But it will not be drones. They simply aren’t better.
I stand by my original post.
Time to get back to celebrating tracking, recoveries, hunting, hunters, and awesome dogs. 😊
DRONES.
This is (hopefully) my only post about drones this year. Mostly for all my Indiana hunters since you’re getting ready to kick off.
Here’s the deal with the drone craze.
Yes I have a drone.
Yea I use it once in a while.
NO, a drone is NEVER better than a legit tracking dog.
A drone will never find anything a legit tracking dog can’t find.
The reverse is 100% NOT true. Dogs find lots of deer behind drones. AFTER the hunter wastes his money on a straight drone guy.
Here’s the bottom line. If you insist on a drone (which is not the best decision) find an actual tracking dog handler that also HAS a drone. Like me.
Many actual tracking dog handlers, actual trackers, have the exact same state of the art drone and the exact same license that the guys have that are just trying to get some cash from you and know NOTHING about tracking deer.
I’m already seeing it on all the hunting pages. Every single guy in the universe that has a drone is all of a sudden a deer recovery expert. It’s straight up BS. I hear sad stories every year about these guys doing the wrong thing, taking your money, and you ending up with nothing.
I have zero skin in the game. I NEVER accept money and I’ve got all the calls I can handle.
These guys are ignorant, or dishonest, or both.
Yes the technology is impressive. But it’s NEVER better for deer recovery than a legit tracking dog and an experienced handler who also uses a drone as a tool when necessary.
My goal is to serve hunters with my awesome dogs. I hate to see guys ripped off by video gamers trying to make extra cash to pay for their toy.
Sorry if anyone is butt hurt. I’ve been serving hunters my entire adult life and I don’t want to see them ripped off.
One last piece of advice if you insist on making the wrong decision: If a drone guys big pitch is that he can be there right away, run the other way as fast as you can.
Nuff said.
We won’t be in Indiana until Halloween. Call me anytime for advice or a referral.
Good luck and be safe.
