'Fan Favorite Joins Defending Champs'
Coach Cook is at it again.
With a championship encore in the works, the Brawlers’ captain made a notable move this week, signing free agent Brian Velozo.
Throughout the Mick Fenway League, Velozo is better known by his nickname, Doofey.
The Brawlers already know what they’re getting reputation wise — With a friendly and laid back demeanor, Doofey is an extremely likable individual, always socializing and joking around with teammates, opponents and spectators on game night.
"We needed a utility player and Doofey is just that, a solid pitcher, hitter and fielder. Which is a rare commodity across the league to be solid in all 3 areas"- Coach Cook
On the WIFFLE field Doofey is a proven gamer, playing all over the diamond without showing a noticeable weakness in any area.
Velozo took a year off in 2018, then was added to MSI, who was in dire need of players. After enduring an 0-5 start with former teammate Connor Berube, Velozo was big part of the team’s second half success, helping win 4 of the last 6 contests.
But arguably Doofey’s season highlight was when he appeared in a July contest for East Coast, stunning now teammate Timmy Mello with an RBI triple, the lone run the elite righty would allow all summer.
“I wish him the best, he’s a solid player and a great teammate” and jokingly added "Mello gave up one run all season, and now you signed him too" — Connor B.
Doofey was named to the 2019 All Star Game as a reserve. He hit .277 with 17 RBIs and 33 walks (.575 on base percentage)
