Food for thought…

When you think about working in sports, do you only think about the people on the field?

A professional sports organization is a business. Behind every team are people working in scouting, analytics, marketing, ticket sales, sponsorships, operations, media, communications, finance, community relations and dozens of other roles.

Even the mascot is part of the business of sports.

The lesson? You don’t have to play the game to build a career in the game.

Start looking beyond the field. Your place in sports might be somewhere you haven’t considered yet.

A special reunion at the MCG! 🏏

Dr. Lynn Lashbrook and longtime SMWW Cricket Business Management mentor Ken Jacobs have stayed connected through years of Zoom calls, but today marked the first time they’ve been together in person since the 2009 Ashes in London.

Ken, former CEO of Cricket Victoria, gave Lynn a personal tour of the Australian Sports Museum at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, sharing stories about his friend Shane Warne and Australia’s incredible cricket history along the way.

During his career with Cricket Victoria, Ken negotiated more than 700 professional cricket contracts. We’re incredibly fortunate that he continues to share that experience, knowledge and passion with SMWW students around the world.

Some friendships truly stand the test of time. ❤️

And there’s another full-circle moment coming: after three decades working at the MCG, Ken will return Friday to attend his first NFL game, which will also be the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia!
