At Resurgam HEMA, we have taken time during the pandemic to instill in our students values and lessons from throughout the world history of martial arts regarding topics like power, violence, and the significance of who wields it.
We live in difficult times, which require difficult solutions. Some communities need to make decisions to protect those who are most vulnerable, like Rogue fencing has done - through no shortage of deliberation and compliance with local and federal regulations.
We understand their decision is a controversial one, but we must support their right to make it. Violence of all forms, domestic or otherwise, is a real issue that affects real people, and as martial artists we must practice in a way that creates a safe environment for our students to fluorish.
Other people have released statements on these matters, including the problematic legal implications of some proposed changes that could affect HEMA clubs because of this. Brian Puckett's post here

is a good place to start, which goes into detail of how things unfolded and how the solution many people may want out of this may not be the right answer.
Ultimately what I feel must be pointed out is that Rogue fencing made a decision about how to run their club, and people that have no direct involvement with them are trying to initiate sweeping policy reform that could affect thousands of people in our community, all without having even humored a professional dialogue with Rogue in the first place. This behavior is not acceptable in our community and should be called out for what it is: Bullying.
It is my hope that Resurgam is a place where people can build community, learn to be their best selves, and create last change in their life by standing up for others. It is because of this we support Rogue Fencing in these times.
