Howdy Runners & Walkers - Coach Diane here. While group runs for marathon training are not happening right now, thought I'd post a couple of shorter-distance training ideas in case you crave contact with the local running and walking community.

Local (Portland/Vancouver) run specialty store Foot Traffic will launch its Fall training session Saturday, 9/12. If you are a guy or a gal, you can check out Foot Traffic University for co-ed training, coached by Sean Rivers himself! And if you are a gal looking to train along side other ladies in an inspiring and supportive community, check out Women's Academy, coached by me!

With either program, you can sign up as in-person participant (showing up at Saturday runs) or virtual participant (show up via zoom & run on your own). Logistics are in place to promote safe distancing Saturday mornings. Curious? https://foottraffic.us/training/

Running + walking solo are two of the few things we can do outdoors with safety and social responsibility. You've heard us coaches ask you to "slow down" your training pace many times in the past; keep it sustainable.

Reframing this request based on the current situation - the smartest thing you can do right now is to bolster + protect your immune system. Use running + walking to BOOST it, not deplete it. Train, don't strain. Take the pace easier than usual so your body can focus on preserving a strong immune system rather than reversing high inflammation from a taxing workout.

As usual, your patience will be rewarded - remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

2019 Portland Marathon and Half...as experienced through the eyes - and the legs - of the runners of the Portland Marathon Clinic and the amazing aid station at mile 11.5/24.5. Runners, you mean the world to us. Keep doing what you are doing, these smiles are contagious and these running feats (feets?) inspiring.

One week until the 2019 Portland Marathon!

Did you know that the Portland Marathon Clinic is managing an important aid station? We would like to ask for help one last time.

We need a few more helpers to fully staff the aid station. We will be at mile 11.5 of the half marathon and 24.5 of the full marathon, what an exciting location! Location bonus: situated on the east side, easy to access without getting stuck in race day traffic.

The German Firetruck will be part of the aid station (considered "on course entertainment") and - believe us - this is not going to be some sleepy little aid station. We are going to be full-on runner spirit for these running souls in the final moments of their running journeys.

Send us a message or reply in comments if you'd like more information.

What a great way to watch the race AND to be there for the runners of the Portland Marathon - let's be an amazing part of the success of the Portland Marathon rebirth together!

Come cheer and give aid with us!

So many gracious people to thank...for today, for this season. Thank you, generous group leaders, for volunteering your time to guide these runners; thank you, kind hosts, for making our runs safer and more comfortable; thank you, aid station volunteers, for offering up your time. Thank you, runners, for bringing your stories, your laughs and your positivity every run!

As for last Saturday’s run, thank you, Foot Traffic, for hosting! And thank you for letting us play pre-run!

Reunion Run Details!

Date: September 14
Time: 8AM
Location: Foot Traffic Sellwood
Distance Options: 12 miles & 16 miles
Aid Station: Three total at miles 4, 8 & 12.

First segment of the run takes us to charming Milwaukie on the Trolley Trail (12 miles). Second segment (4 miles) we go down to Springwater via the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge.

Keep your eye on the weather this week, the forecast is ever-shifting. Good news is, training in some rain will prepare you to potentially race in the rain as well! Runners just gotta go with the flow.

Many thanks to the pace group leaders, aid station volunteer and host Foot Traffic Sellwood for making this run possible. This will be the last reunion run of the season, it has been wonderful seeing so many of your smiling faces throughout the season.

Hope to see you out on the Portland Marathon course and beyond!

Saturday's run was a little tough, but these runners were alot tougher! We ran a preview of the new Portland Half Marathon course and some of us continued on to run a total of 20 miles. This run was made possible and safe by stellar pace group leaders and our our three fantastic aid station volunteers: Patti & Warren, David and Vincent. And many thanks to Foot Traffic's downtown location for hosting the runners of the Portland Marathon Clinic.

We look forward to these reunion runs every month, so much fun seeing you out there doing it! Next run is September 14, make a note, we'll see you then!

Get ready for Saturday's reunion run, this one is NEW and EXCITING!

When: August 10 @ 8AM
Where: Foot Traffic Downtown (SW 3rd & Taylor, near SmartPark)
Distances: 13.1 miles (segment one) with a 20 mile option (7 mile out-and-back segment two)
Pace groups: at least six
Four aid stations!

Route! Here's the exciting part - first segment of the run will preview the Portland Half Marathon course. It's been slightly modified in a couple places where it's not safe to run due to cars on the course. If you are running the full Portland Marathon, this will be your opportunity to preview 1/2 of the course!

Second segment following the half marathon course preview is a flat out-and-back with a nod to the marathon of yesteryear.

You can compare to actual course in Portland Marathon website here (scroll down): https://www.portlandmarathon.com/info

We are profoundly grateful for the volunteers who make this run possible - group leaders Jerry, Michael, Mark, Bill, Jane, John, Peter, Ken, Wendy & Kathy; aid station heroes Patti, Warren, David & Vincent; and our awesome location host, Foot Traffic Downtown!

Weather forecast is 63F at start and 72F at finish, small chance of sprinkles. Keep wearing those shorts, lightweight t-shirts, tanks and SPF - heat illness is no joke. Also carry your own hydration unit to refill at aid stations - better for you and better for planet earth.

Grab some friends and come down to Foot Traffic Downtown at 8AM for a long slow distance group run! Come run with us!
