What an awesome weekend of bike racing at the Portland Criterium. Thanks to everyone who came out to show some long and cheer with us! We've got some photos of the Women's Pro 1/2/3 race up on the blog, too.

After a near decade hiatus yesterday saw the triumphant return of Crit racing to downtown Portland. Spearheaded by Portland racing legend Steven Beardsley the Portland Criterium saw a great communi…

Recently some of our staff attended a trailwork campout for the Orogenesis Project and there's a great story about the weekend up on The Radavist right now!

The longest mountain bike trail in the world: OROGENESIS. It’s an idea now, but with your help we’re going to make it real. Ever since the early days of the Repack riders, mountain bikers have dreamed about a trail that spans the mountain ranges of the North American continent. Now, 40 years lat...

Bike racing is back in Downtown Portland.

Portland Criterium is breaking the 10 year long dryspell, hosting a race in the Portland North Park Blocks.

That said, don't be fooled, this event will be feel more like a block party than a traditional bike race, and we're stoked to be part of the action with a maintenance tent and neutral support for racers (plus all the Big Bike Party enthusiasm we can muster!)
Festivities kicking off at 1pm on August 20th, head down to the venue to enjoy an afternoon of bites from your favorite food trucks, a beer garden brought to you by New Belgium Brewing, live music, and ongoing entertainment from cyclists zooming past at 30mph.

Always a pleasure bringing these beauties back to life!

Big shout out and thank you to Sellwood Cycle Repair. They completely rebuilt my bike to like new condition. Couldn’t find a new one that fit with the new geometry, so they took my old favorite and brought it back to full life. Rides incredible. Thank you again and shop local and support these businesses!

An important announcement about this year's race:

Unfortunately the event is going to be cancelled for this year. We’re unable to use the course we need to make it a good race due to late-notice construction at Ski Bowl West. (I went there Saturday to assess the situation in-person and then meet with Ski Bowl staff.) The main issue is that the course we were left with was too short and, therefore, would have been ā€œcongestedā€ with even a below-average turnout–and we were expecting above-average, based on early pre-registration numbers.

For those who have already registered OBRA will be processing refunds.

At the time of this posting the 6hoursofmthood.com website is also down while we troubleshoot the site renewal (in the meantime additional information will be available at blog.sellwoodcycle.com) . Should you have any questions regarding this announcement or the 6 Hours race please don’t hesitate to send your inquiry to [email protected]

We’re sorry to deliver such news! Thanks for your patience–and hopefully we can do it next year!

-Erik & the 6Hrs Team.

It is with a heavy heart we have to announce we will NOT be able to host the Bear Springs Trap XC on Sunday, May 1. I’m sorry for the news!

We delayed opening up registration because we wanted to first gauge progress on trail maintenance–and that was a good call. We simply won’t be able to clear the outer section of the course–the Clear Creek Crossing to Rim Rock loop–before May 1. Petr Kakes and his Hurricane Racing crew have already removed hundreds of downed trees from the course–as well as from the access roads themselves! It’s heavy, slow work, and it’s been made worse by last week’s snowstorm and this week’s continued snowfall and cold, overnight temperatures. The new snow isn’t melting, and now it’s freezing what snow remained from earlier this winter.

Historically, the all-volunteer, annual trail maintenance in preparation for the Bear Springs Trap XC is the ONLY maintenance these trails receive each year. We simply weren’t given enough time this year to get it done. That said, we’re still very thankful to the USFS for the late permission to do the work. These trails haven’t been used for close to three calendar years, and so we’re excited to get them open for this year! Plus, this year’s work will make next year’s feel easy. It’s a labor of love.

Thank you for your patience and understanding! -Erik Tonkin
