Teaching within a studio setting is not my path, so today I share I’ll be saying goodbye to Luna Yoga PDX.

In opening Luna Yoga PDX, my vision was to increase representation + access to yoga for BIPOC in PDX. I have found that sharing yoga within my counseling practice is where I feel I have the most impact for the vision I started with.

I feel grateful for Luna Yoga PDX! It is an experience that has kept me accountable to furthering my personal practice and taking my understanding of yoga to a deeper and more embodied space.

I will be keeping this IG account active for the moment. I love seeing what others in the yoga community are doing after all!

Thank you to everyone who has attended classes, shared events + sent support my way.

With gratitude!

(Virtual) 4-Week Pranayama Series: A practice will be here soon!

Beginning February 7th
Tuesdays, 6:30pm-7:15pm PST.

But what is pranayama? And what can you expect in this series?

In its most basic sense, Pranayama is yogic breath technique. It’s the 4th limb of yoga.

There’s a variety of pranayama and different pranayama have different effects on the mind and body. Some pranayama bring tranquilizing (calming) effects, some pranayama are vitalizing (energizing) and some bring balance + harmony.

This series will simply take you through a pranayama practice that builds on itself throughout the weeks. So that you get exactly that, an opportunity to learn + engage in a pranayama practice.

I hope you will join me!

When memory + embodiment sets in, you can take your practice anywhere.

The beauty of an asana practice (and yoga as a whole) is that it’s there for you when you need it, whether you are.

Breathwork is back at Luna! Join me in the upcoming 4-week Pranayama Series: A Practice.

If you have been curious about starting a breathwork practice and exploring yogic breath technique (pranayama), this is for you.

Each week, folks can expect to be led in a brief + gentle yoga movement practice to prepare the mind and body for breathwork. Afterwards, IT’LL BE ALL ABOUT THE BREATH 😮‍💨 and you will be guided in a breathwork sequence that builds throughout this 4-week series.

Self care can turn into community care.

Truth is, it can be hard to give others what we don’t give ourselves. In other words, it’s difficult to pour from an empty vessel.

When we are stressed, anxious, self critical, down etc. It can impact how we interact + show up with others.

Movement, rest, breath + grounding practices are all ways you can pour back into you. So that if you’d like to, you can pour into others.

Returning to your breath can help you return to yourself.

Many things can contribute to feeling un-anchored + detached within ourselves.. stress, anxiety, worry, low mood, scrolling.

When that happens remember this 👉🏼
Intentional breath practices can help re-ground, reconnect + re-anchor your mind, body and emotions.

How?
•Following the breath can shift your minds attention
•Regulating the breath can help bring you out of intense emotions
•Slowing the breath helps you activate your parasympathetic nervous system.

And while breath cannot “fix” what might be going on, it might help you move through challenges a little gentler.

The next Yoga for BIPOC Mental Health Therapists (by candlelight + lantern) has been posted! 🕯

No previous yoga experience necessary. Postures and breathwork will be taught with approachability + variation options.

What happens at these events? We begin with 45 minutes of movement. Afterwards we arrange our mats in a circle and connect socially for 30 minutes. It’s pretty unstructured + pretty casual!

Sometimes we pick each others brains on what folks are doing out in the field, sometimes we talk about things we enjoy doing outside of work. Folks are welcome to share events they are organizing (personally or professionally), share their professional social media handles etc.

✨Reclaiming You: Art, Movement & Breath Within BIPOC Community✨ is 8 days away!

And today, I answer some questions about the movement + breathwork portions of the workshop!

Earlier this week Valerie (who will be guiding the collaborative art activity) answered some questions as well. If you missed it, check out the previous post!

We hope you will be able to join us in the new BIPOC specific offering at the studio.
