Little learners, big discoveries! 🌼🌱

The Salmon Class at Providence Portland YMCA has been hard at work bringing their garden to life. From planting beans and peas indoors to watching them sprout into seedlings, and now growing strong outside, these preschoolers are learning firsthand how nature works.

They’ve explored how roots anchor plants and “drink” water, discovered the power of sunshine and soil, and even dove into the underground world of worms. Plus, with grass babies growing and butterflies beginning to emerge from their chrysalides, including two that became butterflies just yesterday! 🦋, the excitement is blooming right alongside their garden!

The biggest lesson of all? We celebrate Earth Day every day, and it’s up to all of us to care for our planet.

When students experience the arts, their world gets bigger.

Emma made it possible for Bolton Primary students to welcome the Portland Ballet Company for a demonstration and hands-on experience, showing how dance can express emotions, tell stories, and empower young minds.

Experiences like this support confidence, creativity, and well‑rounded youth development.

SE YMCA brought the fun for Healthy Kids Day! ❤️

Families gathered at the SE YMCA for a day filled with movement, creativity, and connection. From active play to engaging activities, the energy was high and the smiles said it all.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, our valued community partners and sponsors, and a special shoutout to our incredible YMCA staff for all the hard work that made this day possible.

Cafe Day at Bolton YMCA ☕️✨

Bitsie, Site Director for West Linn Wilsonville and Tigard, shared about a recent event at Bolton Elementary. Staff members Emma and Mar threw a Cafe Day Family Night where the kids spent the week creating menus, naming the cafe, designing a logo, and hyping up the event to their families.

Emma and Mar prepared by getting supplies, printing menus, and buying custom stickers with the logos the kids designed. Before parents arrived, the kids had a test run to practice waiting on tables and taking orders.

Once the cafe opened, students greeted families at the door, seated them, and delivered food to the tables.

It was a proud display of kid independence and leadership, showing just how much they can achieve when they have a space to lead.

Each month, we recognize one outstanding team member from every region whose contributions shine.

This month, we’re proud to celebrate Stephanie Vera from the Central Region!

Since joining the Y in January as a Leader of Youth Development, Stephanie has already made a tremendous impact. She helped transition new Before and After School programs across Portland, McMinnville, and West Linn, strengthening child care across our association.

Outside of work, she’s a Marvel fan, enjoys astrology, and loves spending time with her cat, Eevee.
