Community. Three weeks ago was opening night. Which means it's also been a few weeks of not being in such constant connection with these amazing folks. Don't worry, we will dance together again soon, friends! But for now, we nourish and tend to the other parts of our lives.

Gillie Kleiman is returning to Portland to lead us in her class called Fat Contact. Many of you got to work with her when she came to Portland in 2024 to do research with our legendary fat community. And now she is back in support of our show. And we have asked her to teach her workshop again!

In this workshop, we will work through movement activities that bring us into direct physical contact with one another, asking the question 'what does it mean for fat people to touch?' Instead of routines, we will share in playful explorations guided by sets of instructions, both detailed and open. We will be serious about our time together, and probably also very silly!

This is open to all fat people, including those who have never set foot in a dance studio. Gillie is a very experienced facilitator, and is a specialist in working with people who are new to dancing in dance studios.

This performance is an invitation to witness a living, collective force. Mass Movement offers an embodied exploration of what becomes possible when fat bodies are centered, trusted, and fully lived in. Where softness, weight, shape, and texture become sources of innovation. The choreography reveals a physical language shaped by squish, reverberation, impact, and tenderness.

Mass Movement is also a testament to the power of community, creativity and care. Created within a space of safety and connection, the work reflects the ways marginalized bodies, especially those at the intersections of fat and q***r identity, forge new paths together. Without inherited templates, we build our own structures of meaning, drawing from shared experience, resilience, and imagination. Like its geological namesake, Mass Movement holds both quiet accumulation and sudden shift: a gathering of bodies and energies that, over time, becomes undeniable.
