WHITEAKER AND MAUPIN TOP STIMS DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND
MANOR, Texas (June 14, 2026) —
The Southern Touring IMCA Modified Series presented by On Demand Shirts returned to action for an exciting double header at HOT Speedway in Elm Mott, Texas on Friday and Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige on Saturday. Although the tracks are very different, they both provided the fans with great fields and exciting racing!
A season best thirty-four Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds signed in for action at the historic Elm Mott speed plant making the winner’s haul $1,500. It also meant that only two cars would transfer directly to the feature from the evening’s five heats.
DIY equipment sales and rental Heat One belonged to Raymond Dianne McSpadden who took the win over Steven Whiteaker Jr Sundowner Performance Diesel Heat Two went to Jared Maupin with Matthew Day second. Calera, Oklahoma’s William Gould won 3D Landscaping & Irrigation followed by “Big Brother” Paul White. Heat four saw 2025 series champ Logan Dinsmore pick up the win with Trent Beaver second. Brenda Morris picked up her first STIMS heat of 2026 followed by Jake Upchurch. Qualifying races were rounded out with two B-Mains sending seven cars each to round out the twenty-four car field for 20 lap main event.
Gould and Maupin brought the field to the green with Maupin leading off of turn two. Maupin held off attacks from Gould until the 96 machine spit a drive shaft on lap 9. Gould held the top spot until lap 16 when Steven Whiteaker Jr. grabbed the lead. A late race restart on lap 18 had the fans on their feet for the three lap battle to the checkered. Gould threw a huge slider after taking the white flag, but Whiteaker answered with a crossover pass to retake the lead down the back stretch and hang on the win. This was Whiteaker’s fourth STIMS triumph of 2026 and his fifth in the GRT Race Cars South Central Region. Gould, Chris Morris, Jake Upchurch, and Johnny Torres rounded out the top five.
The nights Mike Terry Motorshports "Hard Charger" award went to Brian Paul White" for gaining 15 positions in the main event starting in 24th and finishing 9th!
The series headed South to the Cotton Bowl Speedway Saturday where twenty-one cars signed in for the $1,000 to win main event. Drama started early for two teams in particular. Steven Whiteaker III discovered a timing cover leak that sidelined his normal ride for the night. He then strapped in the car normally driven by his dad. 2025 series champ Logan Dinsmore also swapped rides for the Saturday show after hurting a motor at HOT the night before. This time it was younger brother, Cameron Dinsmore offering up a car.
DIY Equipment Sales and Rental Heat One went to “The Handyman” Chris Morris with Jared Maupin, Ryan Slott, and Cody Leonard also making the redraw. Sundowner Performance Diesel Heat Two saw G.W. Egbert take the win over Trent Beaver, Raymond McSpadden, and Jt Dewitt. The Egbert family went two for two when Trevor Egbert won 3-D Landscaping and Irrigation Heat Three over Brenda Kirby-Morris, Logan Dinsmore, and Bobby Smith.
G.W. Egbert and Chris Morris lead the field to the green and, after a few early race cautions, raced hard for fourteen laps. The fans had their pick of battles in the front half of the field as Maupin fought with Trevor Egbert and Cody Leonard raced with Brenda Kirby-Morris. The field slowed again on lap 14 which put Morris and Maupin side by side on the next restart. Maupin managed to use the top side to pick up second spot and set his sights on the 717 of G.W. Egbert. Egbert drove six smooth laps and held off Maupin to cross the finish line first, but post race inspection handed the 717 a two-spot penalty putting G.W. third. Maupin was awarded the win making Morris second, G.W. Ebgert third, and Trevor Egbert finished fourth. The win was Maupin’s third in STIMS competition and fourth in the GRT Race Cars South Central Region.
The nights Mike Terry Motorsports Hard Charger award went to Cody Leonard for gaining 6 positions in the race.
Both races were Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational qualifiers for the Speedway Motors IMCA Super National’s fueled by Casey’s. Whiteaker and Maupin were already eligible to qualify with previous wins this season.
