Portage Jr. Miss Softball

Portage Jr. Miss Softball Welcome to Portage Junior Miss Softball! πŸ₯Ž
Established in 1972, Portage Jr. We’re proud to offer divisions for all ages β€”

Miss Softball is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and competitive environment for girls ages 4 and up. Portage Junior Miss Softball league was started in 1972 by a group of parents who wanted to see organized softball for girls in Portage. League play began with six teams and the first games were played on a field owned by the Nazarene Church. In 1974, fundraising comm

ittees were formed with the objective of buying land for the permanent home of the league. Because of the generous support of the local business community and local non-profit organizations, the land for the present complex was purchased. With the help of city employees and contractors, the land was cleared and we were on our way to building our foundation to our future. Between 1975 and 1978, many improvements were made on the fields - fences went up, fields were sodded, bleachers were donated, and a garage was added. The 1980's brought many more improvements to the complex. We added a third field, scorekeepers booths, new fencing, and scoreboards. Lights were added to Field 2 and Field 3. In the early '90's, the concession stand was expanded and new playing surfaces were installed on all infields. Field 1 was dedicated to "Grampa" Parker in 1993 for his genorosity and support of our league. And, because of the growth in the league, a committee was formed investigate the possibility of expanding the complex by purchasing new land for playing field and practice fields. In 1995, the league bought an additional 4.5 acres for expansion. Thanks to the donations of the city of Portage, the Portage High School ROTC, the Army Core of Engineers, Perkins Trucking, and many PJM parents and families, we started clearing the land for a fourth field. An additional 3.6 acres was acquired in 1997. The league also leased property from the city of Portage to build a memorial park for Sarah Lynn Paulson. During the Opening Day, 1997 ceremonies, we dedicated and opened the Sarah Lynn Paulson Memorial Play park for all to enjoy. During Opening Day, 1998, Field 4 was dedicated in memory of Brianna Marie Campbell. In 2008 we purchased property behind Sarah's park and started construction on field 5. This field was dedicated in memory of Rachel Reid on opening day 2009.

53 years of hard work and dedication has brought us to where we are today. In 2010, we have over 600 registered players. We would not have been able to accomplish this without the generous support of our patrons, our sponsors, and many hard working families.
