The Purpose of Step at Portage Township Schools:

To bring a New Culturally Diverse Team to the Middle & High School which will bring UNITY and
allow the students to gain, Teamwork, Leadership, Public Speaking, Resilience & Grit,
Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Multi-Tasking skills that
will take them to the next level in Life. The History of Step:

A form of da

ncing with roots steeped in African-American culture and a unique
dance art form. Stepping is also a form of percussive dance in which the participants'
entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds. In the
early 1900s the organizations of the NHPC (the Divine Nine) used songs and dance as
a call and response to uplift audiences. The modern step teams are all-inclusive, with a
diverse range of races, genders, and cultural backgrounds shared by the members.

This Friday August 21st our first home Football game against Morton. Gates open at 6:00 pm

at the new PHS concession area.
