Old dog, new tricks: I just connected my 15-year-old West Marine AIS 1000 (one of the first non-commercial transponders) to Navionics on the phone/tablet, so I can see ship traffic even when I'm out of cell range. Courtesy of a simple (and inexpensive) device from yakbitz.com that converts the NMEA serial output to wifi. Would have been nice to have on the last !

Evidently, we support crew are not good snack delivery captains, but good at finding weak links of old boats. we tried to motor out to team Narwhal to give them a morale boost but the raw water intake broke and we had to give up pursuit. See u guys at the finish!
