My sympathies go out to the Fred Adams family and to the many people in Cedar City, and beyond, that were positively impacted by his vision, his passion for life and his endearing friendship.

One of my fondest memories of him was on a cold February morning in 2002. He was preparing for the role as Cedar City's Celebrity Olympic Torch Bearer. His was the first segment, a 10th of a mile run down Main Street before passing off the flame to the next runner. The flame then made its journey to the Eccles Coliseum to light the Utah Summer Games cauldron for a massive community celebration (before heading out to Salt Lake for the official Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony).

Fred always seemed happy and full of joy, but there was an extra bit of excitement that morning. An Olympic official described the symbolism on the torch and what it meant to carry the Olympic Flame. When he was handed his Olympic Torch, he clutched it and looked it over with fascination and respect. Then he smiled and turned to me and said, "this is going to be fun!"

Cedar City was honored to have Fred Adams represent our community for many decades as the founder of the Utah Shakespeare Festival and community leader. We are grateful to him for love and friendship he showed to everyone he met.

Fred, Thanks for the memories!! It was an honor to have known you. Rest in Peace.
