At KMMA, every student testing for a Blackbelt level is asked to write and prepare a speech reflecting on their journey, what they’ve learned, and what the experience has meant to them.
Two days before the Blackbelt Test, each candidate stands before the other testing students and their families and delivers their speech.
This past Friday, we had the privilege of hearing from Brian Baehr, who shared the story of how he and his daughter, Emily, became part of KMMA and how training together has become a meaningful bonding experience for them.
Then, just two days later, Brian and Emily tested for their Probationary Blackbelts.
They both passed.
Grandmaster Stephen Del Castillo selected Brian’s speech to be presented at Graduation, giving him the opportunity to share his story with the entire KMMA community.
His story is a beautiful reminder that the Blackbelt journey isn't just about earning a belt. It’s about the people you grow with, the challenges you overcome, and the person you become along the way.
Watch Brian’s speech and hear his story.
