Humble Heron Fly Fishing & Fine Art

Humble Heron Fly Fishing & Fine Art Our business is all about you, your experience, the fish, and the outdoors. We provide instruction in catch and release fly fishing for lively steelhead.

Our company, the Humble Heron, allows us to connect with our guests in a very unique way. We are patient, passionate, and knowledgable in our style of casting instruction. Whether it be with a single hand or two handed rod, we find fly fishing as a way to connect to some very special and amazing fish, steelhead. We view fishing, the river, and nature as more of a spiritual connection. We find our

true happiness on the water, and want to share our love for steelhead, and provide an experience that is all about you. We want you to forget about your work scene, no more should haves, or have to’s. No more lists and thoughts about the day. Only steelhead on the mind! We want our guests to walk away from a trip with us, feeling confident to fish by yourself, teach a friend, and start your own relationship with the fish and the river.

Here are all of the works I produced during Plein Air Easton.
Today is the last day to purchase works from myself and 57 other competing artists at the Academy Art Museum and Waterfowl Festival building. It’s a stunning portrayal of Talbot County. Door open at 10:00 and goes on until 2:00.

Thank you to all the event organizers and volunteers at and the many supporting collectors and locals who make this an absolute gem of a show. I am entirely grateful for this opportunity to paint with some of the best!

Easton has been a complete whirlwind. I don’t know what impresses me more. The amount of support in the community, the incredible event organizers, or how all the artists love to paint as much as I do. Everyday all are hard at work.

Week one was a doozy and left me shell shocked. In Oxford I won top honors “Artists Choice”.

It’s not over, much more to come.

The saying goes that when Humbug Mountain is shrouded in clouds the fishing will be poor. Looks like the clouds are breaking up. Time to fire up the engines and wet a line.

Chipped away at this one in the studio.

is just 9 days away! Im back home prepping for this most prestigious event. There’s quite a bit that goes into these events for myself but for the organizers it’s a monstrous undertaking. To say I’m excited for this opportunity is a mass understatement.

While on vacation with Kait’s family on Orcas Island I did a bit of searching in prep for Easton. I found my most favorite boat yard to date. Deer Harbor Boat Works is a gem. An absolute cluster of organized chaos that had me drooling. A big thank you to Kat for allowing me to get into the mix of their busy work day.

I am up on Orcas Island with my family this week. As much as I am relaxing I also have to keep the brush moving. With Plein Air Easton on the horizon I am exercising. Here’s a couple right out the door of our cabin at Beach Haven.

Today I challenged myself to explore more mid tones in my painting. Breaking rules of values which create depth in a landscape by highlighting textures in the foreground. My most saturated colors are the furthest away as my closest values to middle grey are in the foreground. Goes to show how important composition is in portraying what you want to say. What you want the viewer to notice. But in any piece of art, it’s how the work makes you feel. For both the artist and viewer. What do you feel here? Granted the best way to feel any art is in person.

On a recent trip to go fish the upper Rogue River I passed a scene that I’ve driven by probably 100 times. This was the first time I saw the composition. I’m not much of a barn painter but the whole valley was enough to bring me in. And surprisingly or fittingly this area is known as Picture Valley. Goes to show you that you just need to pay attention along the journey.

From the Florida Keys. This is where and I stayed. Rich pointed out how many ambassadeur reels and rods were in this space. I knew instantly that I was to paint it. The lines of the rods, the angled roof, the boat outside in the canal, and of course the piles of gear and junk! Right up my alley.
