In the early years of GIG, I happened upon a young very talented individual that had a deep passion for all things ballistic. He helped build the foundation of the business and I am forever grateful. Since then, he made a name for himself at the largest optic and rifle providers in the country. I’m happy to announce Derek Walters has branched out on his own. Please show him some love by visiting and considering him for your next level of training adventure.

Coffee at 4am to make to the range on time - $5 bucks

Grinning ear to ear with your two sons after banging steel at 900 yards – priceless!

The "2 and 1 Phenomena"

Those of us in the precision shooting world eventually run into the situation where multiple shots form a nice tight group then, in some random order, a “flyer” forms just outside the tight group (this assumes no known cause of the flyer). Changing every front-line system variable (bullets, powder, primers, COL, trigger pull, rest, etc., etc.) and even shooters will reproduce the same outcome, a very nice group and proportional flyers (surprisingly in the ratio of 2:1 in my experience- although not scientifically proven). Even with the flyers, groups were ½ moa. Good enough for my personal limits but most in this industry love to tinker.

A few years ago this happened to a shooting colleague and I and we were determined to find the answer. I feel we asked every professional in the business and surprisingly we lacked good answers. If you google this situation, you find a little discussion on it, but not as much is I hoped. This lasted about 1.5 years.
One can take this stuff down the rabbit hole as deep as willing and we tested a lot of combinations. In the end, it was neck tension with a splash of concentricity of bullet seating. What fixed the 2:1 problem for us we a match seater die and changing brass that had uniform neck wall thickness.

So there it is, by no means am I saying your situation may end up differently, but start here.

Time to exercise all the long-range gear you got for Christmas! Start 2021 right by learning long range shooting from the ground up.

Class Description
An introduction to long range shooting and safety. The class will be 3 hours of classroom material and a sighting in period at 100 yards. We’ll start at the basics of ballistics, optics, rifle components and set the foundation for actual practical (field) shooting in Long Range I class. When you are finished with this class you will have a good understanding of long range ballistics and what is required to qualify to shoot long range at VCGHC. We will cover the various rifle system component buying decisions -this has been a highly requested topic of prior students.

Back in 1993, Precision Shooting Magazine printed a landmark article about the findings of a group of benchrest shooters who turned a huge Houston warehouse into a precision shooting laboratory. The warehouse, owned by Virgil King, included a 325 yard long straight-away through the heart of it, whic...
