I’ve had a few messages about my pliers sheath asking about durability. Let me tell you it’s tough as, well…leather! fabricated this one for me 2 years ago and it’s going strong. A little TLC goes a long way., just oil it up now and then. Yall hit Cory up or post questions here.

It’s been a great month. Full disclosure: I don’t mask my emotions. I get fired up for big trout, big deer, turkeys at full strut, you follow? We worked this shoreline hard and were catching small trout. Adam saw mullet getting annihilated on the shore line and said ā€œget up hereā€ . Mid Strolling is a technique, not a catch all solution. Some days it works. It worked here. PSA #819šŸ“ Check your scale batteries. Boga said 8 scale said 7.4 lb. Got home and verified, it was off. Fresh battery and was on. Oh well šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø. Don’t care , like I said in the video, she’s big and pretty and that’s what really matters. We did the dance and she swam off. I love big trout, the chase, the process, all of it. I will never grow tired of it.

Got to watch a few really nice trout swim off last week. With the water and the weather warming up it’s critical that we as anglers give these big trout as much of a chance to survive as possible. Keep her in the water, get a quick photo and watch her swim off. These bigger fish will many times fight literally til they expire. We owe it to them to give them a fighting chance.

This one is a little long, bear with me. I’ve had a few folks reach out and ask how I’m rigging up, what gear I’m using etc. šŸ’„šŸ’„FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m an enthusiast, not a pro, not a guide. This is not an endorsement nor do I get paid by any of these companies (except my own, barely šŸ˜‚) This a gear rundown of what has been working for me, hope it helps some of yall catch your PB! šŸŽ£

Backstory: My buddy Chris and his family came down to and wanted to head out and hit Baffin. The rain and high winds kept us off the water til after noon. We decided to drill down and pick an area apart. After an hour a few small trout and one red was all we had to show, bait was EVERYWHERE. The barometric pressure was sky high after the rain and it was tough. I had made the decision to mid-stroll with a new rod made for me by , a 7-3ā€ with a short handle, just like I ordered. As we approached the major feeding time Chris said ā€œI smell a slickā€ā€¦then it happened. My line went slack then I felt weight, I let her take it for 2 seconds and set the hook. If you’ve seen Godzilla come out of the water then you have seen what this fish looked like. Stuck good in the roof of the mouth she was anchored and was doing everything a nine pound trout does to get it out. She put on a show. I let her do the dance, I owed her that. Needless to say trout that big do whatever they want, and go wherever they want. When she finally came to the Boga I did my best impression of Elvis on 5 cups of coffee and gas station speed. It wasn’t pretty, never is with me but I got her clipped on. I just stared at her. Purple and silver, deep and heavy, her sides were 8ā€ from her back to belly. The death grip 2/0 was firmly stuck in the roof of her cavernous yellow mouth. Quick pic and walked her carefully back to the boat to measure and weigh. The water is getting warmer so I wanted to get her back to deeper cooler water as fast as possible. She measured 30 1/2 and hit the scale at 9.14 a true Baffin beauty. She was starting to lean to one side so passed on more pics. I held her by her massive tail she jolted that big body and let me know that it was time for her to return. What a feeling to watch her swim off. It never gets old. I’ll store this memory and replay it over and over, that’s what big trout do to me. I hope they do the same to you someday too.

On a rough weather day we got a window and made the best of it. All it takes is one to change the course. 30.5ā€ and 9.14 pounds of head shaking silver. I got to share it w some good friends at a great place. I’ll give the play by play on another post. God is good!
