We know you've most likely seen a red drum before, but have you ever seen one with close to 400 spots?! 🤯

This impressive red drum was caught by an angler along the in Galveston Bay this week.

The red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) is a popular game fish in coastal waters ranging from Massachusetts to Mexico. They are known to sport one large black spot on the upper part of the tail base. And although it’s rarer to find red drum without any spots, finding one with this many is not common.

These fish prefer shallow waters (1-4 feet deep) along the edges of bays with submerged vegetation, such as seagrasses, and are also commonly found around oyster reefs. Juvenile red drum enjoy a diet that consists of small crabs, shrimp, and marine worms, and as they grow older, they feed on larger crabs, shrimp, small fish, and sometimes their cousins, the Atlantic croaker.
