This quote from the book, The Practice of Healing really got me thinking.
When we say, “I want happiness,” I wonder if what we’re really longing for is peace. 🤍
Because happiness isn’t always possible.
We are human. We are gifted with the beautiful, messy, sometimes painful ability to feel it all. Joy, grief, excitement, disappointment, love, fear, gratitude, anger, sadness… all of it.
And maybe we weren’t meant to hold onto one feeling forever.
Maybe we were meant to let each feeling come and go as it must.
Peace is the acceptance and allowance.
Peace is making room for what was, without constantly wishing it had been different.
Peace is being present enough to fully experience what is, instead of living in the past or borrowing worry from the future.
Peace is trusting what will be, even when we don’t yet know what it looks like.
When we can find peace with what was, what is, and what will be, something shifts within us.
We stop needing life to always feel good in order to feel okay.
And from that place of peace, happiness has room to linger a little longer. ✨
It makes the good times even sweeter and it gives us something soft to lean into when the difficult ones come.
Maybe the goal isn’t to always be happy.
Maybe the goal is to be at peace with whatever we are feeling.
And perhaps that is where true happiness has always lived.
Wishing you all PEACE & HAPPINESS.
