⛵️ PCYC Jr. Race Team Update – Cleveland Yachting Club ⛵️

The Port Clinton Yacht Club Jr. Race Team continued its strong season today at Cleveland Yachting Club as part of the I-LYA Traveler’s Series.

In the Opti Gold fleet, Charlie Lorenz had an outstanding regatta, finishing 1st in Opti Blue and 2nd overall. Ben Schramm finished 3rd in Opti Blue and 5th overall, while Mia Withers placed 4th in Opti Blue and 6th overall.

In the Laser fleet, Lola Coan and Alex Bodager challenged themselves by moving up from their usual Laser 4.7 rigs to compete in the larger Laser Radial class. Against a fleet of 22 sailors, Lola finished an impressive 5th overall and Alex finished 11th.

With large race courses and variable winds, sailors completed only three races today, making every finish count. Once again, our sailors represented PCYC with determination, sportsmanship, and outstanding results.

Congratulations to all of our competitors! Next up is North Cape Yacht Club, followed by the start of Cleveland Race Week. Keep up the great work, sailors!

⛵️ PCYC Jr. Race Team Update - Erie Yacht Club ⛵️

The Port Clinton Yacht Club Jr. Race Team traveled to Erie Yacht Club in Pennsylvania today for the second stop of the I-LYA Traveler’s Series. Our sailors were excited to have Technical Advisor Dante Cittadini join coaches Juanma and Tincho for the event.

Although the skies were clear, strong winds led the race committee to abandon all Optimist racing after several hours of waiting for conditions to improve. Our Opti sailors were understandably disappointed, but still eager to sail, so coaches Dante and Juanma took advantage of the situation by launching the sailors for valuable high-wind training. We are incredibly proud of how well they performed in the challenging conditions.

During the awards ceremony, PCYC Opti sailors Ben Schramm, Charlie Lorenz, and Mia Withers were recognized with medals for their courage and determination to sail despite the race cancellation.

The Laser fleet did compete, and Lola Coan showed tremendous grit. As the only sailor willing to race in the Laser 4.7 fleet, Lola earned 1st place in her class and also posted several impressive finishes against the larger-sailed Laser Radial fleet.

While days like today can be disappointing for sailors eager to compete, they also showcase the strength of our Junior Sailing program and the outstanding coaching our sailors receive. Congratulations to all of our sailors, and we look forward to racing at Cleveland Yacht Club next Saturday!

⛵️ Our Learn-to-Sail program is officially underway at Port Clinton Yacht Club!

This week, our Level 2 sailors hit the water and are already hard at work building their sailing skills under the instruction of coaches Juanma, Tincho, and Lola. The Level 2 program will continue throughout the first three weeks of June, and we’re excited to see these young sailors continue to grow in confidence and ability on the water.

If you still have a child interested in learning to sail this summer, there are still a few spots available in our Level 1 classes and both of our Intro to Sail sessions. It’s a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn new skills, make friends, and develop a lifelong love of boating.

Registration is available in the bar, and our full Learn-to-Sail calendar can be found in the Learn to Sail section of the Port Clinton Yacht Club website.

We look forward to another great summer on the water! ⚓️☀️

The Port Clinton Yacht Club Junior Race Team kicked off the 2026 I-LYA Traveler’s Series today at Buckeye Lake, just east of Columbus, under the coaching of Juan Manuel Campos and Martin “Tincho” Gwozdz.

💥 In the Laser 4.7 division, Lola Coan sailed to a 1st place finish, while Alex Bodager earned a strong 5th place finish.

PCYC was also very well represented in the Opti Gold fleet with three sailors competing:
⛵ Ben Schramm placed 2nd in Opti Blue and 4th overall.
⛵ Charlie Lorenz placed 3rd in Opti Blue and 6th overall.
⛵ Mia Withers placed 8th in Opti Blue and 13th overall.

We are incredibly proud of all of our sailors for their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship as they represented PCYC in the first regatta of the season. This is a talented group, and we’re excited to watch them continue to grow throughout the summer.

Congratulations, sailors! We look forward to cheering you on next weekend at the Erie Yacht Club regatta in Pennsylvania.
