Why go with a smaller family run service on a less popular stretch of river?
We were recently back in western PA visiting family. Out there, we took a trip to Ohiopyle. It’s a beautiful and very popular spot for whitewater rafting & kayaking. However, it was also incredibly crowded, on a Wednesday... Some of the restaurants were shut down due to staffing shortages, others were out of food, and some just didn’t have any space. Every van and bus that we passed was packed.
One thing to consider is that places offering shuttle services are more popular, and are going to be more crowded. This will not only impact your kayaking trip, but accommodations, restaurant seating, etc. Shuttles go when they are full; they're not personal chauffeur services. Do you want to be waiting around and share a cramped van / bus with a bunch of strangers?
There are no other renters operating along this stretch of river. It's the perfect mix of exciting, but manageable rapids and laid back stretches of river. Grab your friends! Bring your family! Come on down! Our trip and surrounding area is much more laid back. Yet, it is still surprisingly convenient. There are plenty of local shops, restaurants, and accommodations that aren’t under the strain of the recent rush to the great outdoors here. Larger chains aren’t too far away from the tranquil outdoor spaces either. It's an experience that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
