Labor Day Boating Safety

Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year on the water. Before you head out for one last summer adventure, take a few minutes to make safety your top priority. 🛥️

✅ **Wear a life jacket** — Make sure everyone aboard has a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

🌦️ **Check the weather** — Conditions can change quickly. Know the forecast and be prepared to head back to shore.

🚫🍺 **Boat sober** — Alcohol and boating don't mix. Designate a sober operator.

📱 **File a float plan** — Tell someone where you're going, who is aboard and when you expect to return.

🔧 **Check your boat** — Inspect your fuel, battery, lights, communications equipment and safety gear before leaving the dock.

⚓ **Know the rules** — Maintain a proper lookout, operate at a safe speed and understand the navigation rules.

📻 **Be prepared for an emergency** — Carry reliable communication and signaling equipment, and make sure your engine cutoff switch is working.

Tropical Weather Outlook
August 24 2026

Central Subtropical Atlantic (AL95):
A broad area of low pressure centered a few hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda continues to show signs of organization. Additional development of the low is possible, and this system could become a short-lived tropical depression or storm during the next couple of days while it moves northward and north-northeastward, well northeast of Bermuda. It has a medium (50 percent) chance of formation in 48 hours and in the next 7 days.

Eastern Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave and associated area of low pressure has moved offshore of west Africa with disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally conducive for development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle to latter portions of the week while the system moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical
Atlantic. It has a low (20 percent) chance of formation in 48 hours and a medium (60 percent) chance in the next 7 days.
