The Shugotenshi Dojo of Japanese Martial Arts

The Shugotenshi Dojo of Japanese Martial Arts Pray for peace; train for war... The Shugotenshi Dojo has always prided itself on being the only dojo in the area that trains in the outdoors.

Originally opened by Jason Chambers in Baton Rouge in 1994, the Shugotenshi Dojo has been one of the only sources in the state of Louisiana for training in the traditional Japanese martial arts old ancient Japan. We are the only dojo that offers training in the Takamatsuden martial arts in the traditional manner taught only by a few instructors in the United States. Additionally, we offer study of

Japanese weaponry of the samurai age, to include the katana (sword), rokushakubo (staff), kusarifundo (weighted chain), shuriken (throwing blades) and many others. We believe that training in nature is beneficial to all students as it teaches them to adapt their learning to environments they may find themselves in more often than being in a building with a padded floor. Training in the elements also teaches the student lessons in patience and endurance with having to deal with some of the "discomforts of nature". It is for this reason that we ask that potential students consider this before applying for admission. This type of training is not for everyone.

The 2016 Flood of the Baton Rouge area was a terrible and tragic event for us all.  Many people, including public safety personnel lost everything they owned... homes included. Five of our own lost homes and valuables and are no displaced as a result. It is my effort, as being an Animal Control...

Throwing the Kaginawa Quietly
Taken from - 'Kaginawa: its history & use'

If subterfuge is key and a night raid upon the castle of an enemy lord needed, then a Kaginawa is almost always a necessary tool. However, alerting all the guards with the tell-tale “Clang” of metal on stone would certainly cause its fair share of problems.

One method of avoiding this is to wrap the body and prongs of the Kaginawa in multiple layers of fur, fabric or loosely woven rope in order to muffle the sound of the Kaginawa finding its mark. Every metal part of the Kaginawa should be covered, apart that is from the very tips of each hook as you need them to remain sharp in order for them to function correctly.

Whilst this practice does not completely negate the sound of metal against stone, it does reduce it significantly.
