Poquoson Sailing Foundation

Poquoson Sailing Foundation The Poquoson Sailing Foundation is a 501C3 nonprofit that maintains a fleet of sailboats at Messick Point available for lease to sailing organizations.

The Poquoson Sailing Foundation currently hosts the Poquoson Sailing Team; Poquoson Sailing is an exciting, competitive, co-ed, fall and spring sport established in 2000. The team has produced world class athletes who have continued sailing at the collegiate level and gained entrance into competitive schools such as the Coast Guard Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy. Team members earn varsity

letters (fall) and compete against both public and private schools in the Hampton Roads Area. Sailing requires physical strength, athletic skill and strategy. Poquoson won the state title in 2011 and continues to compete at an advance level. Poquoson sailors are student athletes who achieve both on the race course and in the classroom. Ninety five percent of our sailors are honor roll students!

Spring 2025 Sailing for PHS is about to begin! This is such a wonderful program and PSF is honored to support these students!

DID YOU KNOW….

PHS has had a team for over 10 years?

That these students sail against NATIONALLY ranked schools and sailors from the Hampton Roads area?

That regattas (races) are weekly at either Norfolk Yacht and Country Club or Youth Sail Virginia @ Ft. Monroe’s Mill Creek?

Coach David Hannah has been sailing and coaching for most of his life?

Historically, PHS ranks in tops against our local schools?

Student athletes sail in 2 person dinghy races? Our fleet of boats are tops notch with brand new sails?

PSF is a non-profit whose goal is to get more kids on the water. It’s that simple!
