MaxxDaddy at Fairbury Speedway - turned mud fest thanks to Mother Nature.
The weekend came with lots of anticipation from everyone getting to race ‘on the big’ track where we’ve grown up! Halynn and Jeff got to check their bucket lists on Friday night, but sadly a couple down pours Saturday morning forced cancellation, meaning Rhys didn’t get to run.
Halynn was the 2nd cart out on the track Friday and put down some good laps. She was struggling to find speed, and put dad to work to figure out adjustments. Practice 2 and qualifying were better. Thanks to rain delays, Halynn headed out to her feature at 12:01 am- at the starting cone she got in the thrills and the clutch blew apart ending her night with a DNS.
Jeff did well in practice and qualifying. Went out for the B Main and made his laps, but sadly didn’t make the feature.
As parents it’s a lot of work to keep racers on time, geared up, adjustments made, etc. and Jeff pulls double duty many nights racing and being crew chief- he was stretched thin and focusing on the kids carts- he really just wanted the chance to race Fairbury and he got it!
Not only did we have Jeff & Halynn racing Friday, we were fortunate to get to help Jackson Rogers as well- he races wings with Halynn- so Jeff was crewing for him too! Special shoutout to Grandma & Grandpa with a ⭐️ for helping too!
When we (mom & kids) all got back to the camper after 1 am Sunday we were spent! Jeff was working on Halynn’s cart and got in after 2:30!
Saturday was an early wake up after a late night- back in the pit area by 7:30am. Then got met with an absolute downpour around 8:45, while waiting for the drivers meeting. Sadly, the track had to make the difficult (but right!) decision to cancel Saturday. The pits turned into mud-fest for the kids and they did what kids do- they played, had fun, and made the best out of a muddy situation! Thanks to Uncle Nathan, Grandma & Grandpa for being there again Saturday!
Thanks to everyone involved in getting this event setup and back to Fairbury- the track was amazing on Friday! We hope the event is back in the future!
