Shobukan Martial Arts Academy

Authentic family friendly Martial Arts! Welcome to our traditional style dojo. As a family run dojo we keep prices affordable and require no contracts.

We offer martial arts classes in a family friendly setting where beginner kids, parents, grandparents and friends are encouraged to train together. We teach three disciplines at our dojo that offer a student of martial arts access to the world’s most powerful and effective self-defense systems. Goju Ryu (Traditional Karate)
Matayoshi Kobudo (Weapons fighting system)
Shorinji Aiki Jujitsu (Japanese

grappling and wrestling martial art)

Instructors Ray Peet and Richard Mustafa are devoted to the practical application of these true traditional martial art forms. Emphasis is placed on proper form, structured training sessions, practical real-world application, and respect for the art’s heritage. Nick Peet and Craig Stewart, both senior belts and long-term students of the academy also instruct class. We offer children’s classes, beginner/intermediate classes for teens and adults, as well as advanced black belt classes.

Congratulations to our newest brown belt/black stripe student Richard (AKA “The Counselor”). He is on the road to his black belt promotion and has shown nothing but commitment and dedication to our school. He always helps other students out and is consistent in his journey to gain knowledge, perfect his craft, and carry on the teachings of Shobukan Goju-Ryu. Well deserved sir!

At our martial art school, we offer it to the whole family. No contracts. No gimmicks. No buying your belt color. Everything that is gained here at our school is earned and that’s something that is lost within some of our community. We are just a friendly family atmosphere with great training for self defense!

Last weekend we had a great seminar showcasing different styles other than traditional Karate which is what we primarily offer at our school.

Our instructors are skilled in other martial arts and we were happy to have them showcase techniques from Muay Thai, Japanese Jujutsu, Bajiquan Kung-Fu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to enhance our students understanding of the martial arts as a whole.

Our students and participants gained a ton of knowledge and interest because we tied a lot of the techniques back to the roots of our own Karate training and applicability.

Thank you to Senpai Nick Peet for his segment on Muay Thai, to Sensei Ray Peet for his Japanese Jujutsu expertise, to Camilo Iribarren for his Bajiquan Kung-Fu information, and Leonardo Legentil for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu knowledge. We would like to give a big shout out to Leandro Legentil and Gregory Thompson for taking the time out to join us and help our students when it came to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu portion! Domo Arigato!

Just a reminder that SMAA is holding a FREE in-house seminar showcasing Muay Thai, Japanese Aiki-JuJutsu, Bajiquan Kung Fu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu this Saturday, January 25th, from 2pm-6pm open to everyone 10 years old and up, no matter your skill level or whether or not you’re a student of ours.

We have 4 of our black belts who are experienced in other martial arts teaching techniques from these other styles.

This isn’t your typical “Karate” class and better yet, it’s FREE!

Sometimes Sensei has to remind the young ladies and gentleman of how it’s done!!!! 💪😂💪

We teach and have fun with our fantastic kids that are doing great academically, thriving in different camps such as computer coding and space camp, excelling in school wrestling programs, and becoming the best they can be in our community with volunteering for various causes. All the while having loads of joy pushing themselves mentally and physically with our authentic Karate training. They earn their belts and moving through our ranks. They are accomplished and know that they deserve what they get in our Dojo.

Congrats to our newest DOJO HERO!!!!

We started this in-house program called “Dojo Hero” for our students to tell their friends and family about our school and what we do and win prizes when they accomplish those goals. This is our newest winner and his prizes! He passed on our info to a few different people and he won a clock, a few figurines, and a belt display that he can put on his wall as he moves through the ranks to see his accomplishments!

Anticipating an attack and being able to evade or block an attack is an important aspect to our Goju Ryu karate school for self defense. They are demonstrating blocks conducive to true Goju Ryu Kihon and Kata and basics.

These gentleman have been with us for some years and are still having fun using traditional Goju Ryu open hand techniques and using them at almost full speed. They're also our next qualified candidates who will be testing for a Black Belt promotion in a few months.

Belt promotions in our dojo are not bought…. They are earned through hard work, devotion over time, sweat-blood-tears, and also are in the constant pursuit of knowledge within Shobukan Goju Ryu karate.

Keep learning, keep working hard, keep gaining knowledge, and you will in fact earn the title of Black Belt or Sho-Dan at our dojo.
