Been busy in the shop resurrecting reels. This 5000 belong to Stoney Golay of Ponca City, OK. Stoney purchased this garage sale find for 10.00. He handed it to me and we put new brakes in it, guide pawl, gave it a good cleaning and a dose of Reel X to keep it free and the internals from aging anymore.

I did a little tune job for this Ancient Mariner 6000 we are donating for one of Bryan Ladds Benefit Tournaments, Casa For Kids Foster Tournament.
This reel turned out great and is unbelievably slick!!

Even brand new reels can benefit from a proper cleaning. You may ask why is that? #1 grease will begin to harder hindering performance. Chances ate the reel you buy has already been manufactured for a year before you ever git your hands on it. A lot of manufactures tend to use WAY too much grease. This also hinders performance. Bearings are normally packed with grease.... hindering casting performance. You see a trend here? By properly cleaning and lubing the reel for it's intended use and flushing the bearing can make a new reel perform better than right out of the box.
