We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came out to support the 2026 Garden State Judo Classic at our new venue, Fairleigh Dickinson University. Thanks to your incredible support, we achieved a record-breaking milestone of over 600 entries, a testament to the continued growth and passion of our judo community.

This event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of so many individuals. We extend our sincerest thanks to our set-up and breakdown crews, table workers, and referees, as well as the parents, coaches, and competitors who make this tournament what it is year after year.

We are also proud to honor two exceptional individuals who have given so much to the sport. Vitaliy Polyanskyy and Saro Balagezyan were each presented with the Garden State Judo Classic Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding and lasting contributions to judo.

POMPTON LAKES NATIVE RAMON HERNANDEZ JUNIOR EARNS SILVER MEDAL AT IJF DAKAR AFRICAN OPEN

North Jersey Judoka Opens 2026 International Season with Podium Finish in Senegal

March 29, 2026, Ramon Hernandez Junior, a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School and dedicated member of the North Jersey Judo, claimed a Silver Medal at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Dakar African Open, marking his first international medal of the 2026 competitive season. The Dakar African Open, held in Senegal, drew international competitors from the US, Canada and Europe.

With his sights firmly set on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Ramon is embarking on an extensive three-year international campaign, competing in IJF World Tour events across multiple continents to accumulate the Olympic qualifying points necessary to earn a spot. Fans and supporters will have the opportunity to cheer on Ramon in person at his next competition, the Garden State Judo Classic, scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey.
