where one road ends, another will often begin. congratulations to this distinct group of gentlemen warriors on joining the black belt ranks. Mike "Tatonka" Camba: a full time health care pro, who (in his spare time) medaled at the world championships. Mike Laviola: studious, consistent, and tough as nails. he's probably training somewhere right this very moment. Andrew Cutthbert: a new dad, Marine Corps veteran, and technician of feet and legs. Chris Amrstrong: a devoted father, talented carpenter, and a dogged wrestler/jiujiteiro. and Jose Cadavid: a rocketship of a human, who has just scratched the surface of his potential as a grappling competitor, despite having world titles on his record. bestowing a black belt requires great consideration and responsibility. it requires excellence in character, relentless training, and black belt level skill to be recognized by AJ with that black strap. welcome to the beginning of your next journey. wear that belt well.

how lucky we have been to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

there is far too much to post on social media but, after trying to out-wait this virus for nearly half a year, it's time to face reality. we've arrived at the decision that our journey ends here. we will not be reopening Beach BJJ for classes.

as you might imagine, there is a feeling of heartbreak for us, but dwelling in sorrow just ain't our style. we take condolence in knowing that our friendships and stories will go on.

it will deservedly be the legacy of AJ and our other instructors (you know who you are) that they taught from a giant place in their heart. for me, an older guy at the gym, I was inspired by the growth and character of each of these guys and girls. but the real heartbeat and joy of our school has always welled up from the energy of our members. someday, someone will come up with a stronger word - because to call you all "family" is not enough.

as for me, there's a couple people that I owe a beer or two . . . I will reach out to you, privately. otherwise, it's been quite a ride, guys. much love.

so far, August seems to be on par with the rest of the year. please contact us if you need anything. for those who continue to support the school while it is closed (4 months so far), you are BEYOND amazing. you are quite literally gym heroes. we are getting LOTS of calls and messages from prospective, current, and old members every day asking about our reopening. this is encouraging and the MOMENT that it is possible to reopen we will let everyone know and throw one helluva' reopening. in the meantime, stay safe everyone. enjoy the rain tomorrow.

hi. remember us? we miss you guys. we just need people to work together to get these numbers down so that we can get open. so frustrating.

for the week of June 22-26, ER visits in Broward County for COVID-like illness increased by 44 percent. ER visits for flu-like visits increased by 65 percent. new cases by date increased by 58 percent.

we promised you all an update. we wish that we had better news. the number of new cases of the virus has skyrocketed since restaurants and other places started to reopen. we have talked with unbiased health care professionals and others smarter than us, and we agree that we are still not at a point that teaching jiu jitsu is safe (or even legal). so, we cannot reopen tomorrow. if you have questions or just want to talk some jiu jitsu, please feel free to message us. if one of your family or housemates trains, and you need a place to train together, message us. if you are looking to binge watch jiu jitsu while we are suspended, message us. if Florida can get its new case numbers down, we can get through to the next phase and get reopen again. please be safe. wear a mask. social distance with your family or housemates. be well. we miss you all. photo of gym taken today.
