Most Americans are unaware of the cancer risks from alcohol. If you were, you are no longer.

“New findings, from a nationally representative survey that included responses from 3865 adults, show a low awareness of the cancer risk from alcohol, and also that the risk varies by type of drink.”

https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/985002

“The evidence indicates that the more alcohol a person drinks—particularly the more alcohol a person drinks regularly over time—the higher his or her risk of developing an alcohol-associated cancer.

Even those who have no more than one drink per day…have a modestly increased risk of some cancers.”

The pounds may not come off as fast as you’d like, but just keep going.

The benefits of consistent exercise include sharper thinking, less depression and anxiety, better sleep, stronger bones and muscles, and reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancers of the breast, the colon and other organs.

And….it also HELPS with weight management.

Just. Keep. Going.

“80% of Parkinson’s Disease patients will develop dementia.  Drugs used to treat the motor symptoms of the disease may actually worsen the dementia by causing delirium or increased confusion.  Often the treatment is to find a balance between control of the motor symptoms and limiting these side effects.”

“Of all the lifestyle changes that have been studied, taking regular physical exercise appears to be one of the best things that you can do to reduce your risk of getting dementia. Several studies looking at the effect of aerobic exercise (exercise that increases your heart rate) in middle-aged or older adults have reported improvements in thinking and memory, and reduced rates of dementia.”

Numerous studies demonstrate that exercise is associated with a lower level of depression and depressive symptoms for older adults diagnosed with PD.

Regular exercise is strongly encouraged to help with managing depression…really, for EVERYONE at all ages.

REMEMBER WHEN…

It was suggested that grains should be consumed 6 to 11 servings per day leading to many over consuming ultra processed foods??

💡One bagel 🥯 is equal to at least 6 servings.

(Also, there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.)

A randomized controlled trial of seniors between the ages of 85 - 95 demonstrated that the intervention group showed enhanced muscle power and strength. There were also significant increases in total and high-density MUSCLE in the intervention group. The control group showed significantly reduced strength and functional outcomes.

Another study clearly showed that it didn’t matter if you had been exercising throughout your life, you can still derive benefit from exercise WHENEVER YOU START. Even beginning later on in life will help you delay age-related frailty and muscle weakness.
