2021 NJ Fluke Kayak Fishing Tournament Rules
Participation and Eligibility: Participation is open to anyone 18 Years of age or older. Minors are eligible to register and participate with a parent or guardian who also participates in the event. Minors must have the signature of his or her parent or legal guardian on the entry form as applicable to any state, commonwealth, county, or federal regulations or law. The obligation to know these rules falls upon the participant. Online registration must be received no later then July 21, 2021. After July 21, 2021 the late fee will be $65. Entry fees are not refundable.
You must wear your PFD at all times while fishing on your kayak.
Awards: Awards/Cash will be awarded for the following divisions. See section 10 for scoring criteria. Winners will be based on the following Catch Photo against a measuring device displaying the units of inches from closed mouth to tip of tail, that are submitted from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm on July 24, 2021
Longest Fluke: 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Places
Fluke Slam(longest 3 combined fluke): 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Places
No catch photos will be processed after 5:00 PM on Saturday July 24, 2021 unless you are in line prior to the time stated previously.
All Prizes will be awarded to anglers at the Party on July 24, 2021 after 6:00 PM.
Captain’s Meeting: There will be a Captain’s Meeting on Friday July 23, 2021 at Fishermen’s Supply 69 Channel Dr, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742. All participants are encouraged to attend the Captains Meeting. The purpose of the Captain’s Meeting is to review the rules and to provide a basic orientation of the event and answer any questions. If you are unable to make the captains meeting please be sure to review these rules prior to fishing the tournament. Refer to Release of liability #11 below. Onsite late registration will be accepted at the captains meeting @$65.00 per angler. Only those present at the captains meeting will be able to enter the Calcutta’s.
Starting Time: Launching can begin at 5:00am. All entrants wishing to enter fish must return their pictures/camera in at Fishermen’s Supply by 5:00 PM. Please note Catch Photo Submission Time 3:00PM – 5:00PM Saturday July 24, 2021. The first picture must be of you with the unique identifier emailed to you from the launch at or after 5:00am. The second picture must be of your kayak preferably with a landmark so we can identify you are fishing within the permitted boundary. All picture files will list a digital time stamp, please make sure the time and date are correct on your camera. All photos with a digital time stamp outside the tournament permitted time will be disqualified.
Communications: The use of mobile communication and VHF radio is allowed. During the hours of competition, contestants may not obtain or receive assistance, including but not limited to following a non-competitor’s boat, the placing of markers by any non-competitor, towed by or riding on motorized vessels or electronic, voice or data communication from a non-competitor. Honor System guys please. See Sportsmanship below.
Sportsmanship: All contestants are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy and conservation. Intoxication will be cause for immediate disqualification. No alcoholic beverages or the use of illegal drugs is allowed. This rule extends through and includes signing or digital checking the box of the waiver form both online and mail in. The illegal use of drugs, participation in any criminal activities, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition and compliance with tournament rules and the law are grounds for disqualification and/or rejection of any applicant from participation. This will also entail the return of any prizes awarded. Tournament directors will seek legal remedy if necessary.
Permitted Fishing Methods: All fish must be caught live via hook and line. The selection of baits is up to the discretion of the participant.
Prohibited: There is absolutely NO FERRYING/Mother Shipping (i.e. using another vehicle or boat, motorized or not to transport your kayak to a fishing location while on the water.
Permitted Fishing Locations: You may fish from South of the NJ-NY Border to the Seaside Bridge. All participants please use “pubic accessible” safe launch areas on the NJ. Using private property will result in disqualification. During the hours of competition, contestants may not obtain or receive assistance, including but not limited to following a non-competitor’s boat, the placing of markers by any non-competitor, towed by or riding on motorized vessels or electronic, voice or data communication from a non-competitor. Kayaks are the only mode of on-the-water transport allowed. You can use pedal crafts, sailing kayaks and electric kayaks. No gas powered kayaks.
Scoring: Catch and Photo criteria; Winners will be determined by the length of the fish measured on a board or tape measure (must be under the fish)ruled in INCHES from Closed Mouth to tip of tail of fish. The fish must be placed on top of the measuring device. A hard board is preferred ruling device. Anglers will be required to fill out a form with their catch entries including lengths the angler submitting has determined.
Unique Identifiers – Will be emailed to anglers for printing and handed out at the Captains meeting. Please PRINT your name CLEARLY on the unique Identifier. Participants are encouraged to use their own cameras if available. Digital is the only method, and a card reader will be used to download pictures. If you are using a cell phone please make sure it has a removable memory card or bring your data cable.
The unique identifiers must be visible in every picture. If there is no identifier, then the picture is disqualified.
All photos become property of the Striper Challenge.
The first photo on the card must be of the angler
The second photo will be the rigged boat at put in with a landmark within the frame. Fish must be photographed in or on boat, (vessels should be distinguishable in photo) next to tape measure or measuring board. The photo must show clearly the length of the fish. Fish must be alive at time of photo.
Length is determined from the tip of the closed lower jaw to the natural (un-pinched) tip of the tail. Length should be measured to the nearest quarter inch. Lengths will be verified and scored by the committee.
The judging committee makes the call and the tournament director is the final authority on length but will not change the ruling of the judging committee. The tournament Director is not liable for photo processing and condition of cameras.
In the event of a tie, the angler who entered their camera card first, will be the winner.
Please have your measuring device handy at weigh in in case of a dispute. Your measuring device may be compared to the official measuring device held by the tournament committee.
Release of Liability: A waiver and release of liability statement is part of the entry form. It is required of each contestant that they take responsibility for themselves while participating in any tournament activities. Online registrants will have agreed to these terms upon registering for the event. Mail in registrants will have agreed to these terms by signing the mail in form.
Rule Changes: Rule interpretation will be left exclusively to the tournament directors; decisions of the tournament director are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal.
Protest: Any and all protest must be submitted in writing, 30-minutes before the start time of the captains meeting, or 30-minutes before the official check-in period. All protests will be reviewed by the tournament committee which will be made prior to the captains meeting.
Laws and Regulations: Please be aware that New Jersey requires all anglers to register for the Salt Water Registry. This goes for all Residents and Non-Residents of NJ. It is free. For more information go to http://www.nj.gov/dep/saltwaterregistry/index.html.
