Oh yeah first fluke trip back & our first two limits of the year! First area we fished was drop and reel but all short fish. Made a move and found some better quality, boxing up our 2 man limit in a few drifts and headed back to the dock.

Nice action in the back last night. Solid pick of schoolies most of the evening casting shads. Capt Steve landed the biggest backbay bass we’ve had this year at just under 15 pounds. Also a surprise would-be keeper fluke pushing 20” that was safely released. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a good later bite this year!

Had Johnny and Khoa back out last night for a combo hardtail / backbay trip yesterday afternoon. Got a much later start that we were hoping for which I knew was going to make it more difficult. Broke the inlet and found some albies on top right away and chased them around for a bit but couldn’t get any to commit. With the sun going down and only a small window of daylight left to fish we threw a Hail Mary off the beach and arrived to the spot with only about a half hour of light left. Got some live bait in the water and within minutes had jumbo bonito and albies crashing around the boat. Once it got dark we headed back in the river and picked at fluke and blues to 10lbs. Read bass and even saw them on the surface but they weren’t eating for whatever reason. Finished up with 6 species: few bonito each, albies, couple spanish macks, blues, fluke and even some (C&R) jumbo seabass.

It’s September!! My favorite month to bass fish in the back. The mullet and peanut bunker are getting ready to begin their migration out of the lagoons and the stripers and blues will be in hot pursuit. Time to black out the livewell and get fishing!!

What a day yesterday! Headed out around noon with Jason Sokol to try to find some exotics.

On the ride to the first spot we found the first false albie blitzes of the fall along the beach and played catch and release with them for a bit. Once they went down took a ride off the beach to check out some wrecks and do some light tackle jigging.

First spot was loaded. We went to work with epoxy jigs and small butterfly jigs pulling jumbo seabass, some of the biggest bonito I’ve seen, albies, blues and mackerel every drop. Kept our limit of the bigger seabass and a bunch of bones and threw back the other stuff.

Up next was blackfish and triggers. Back in on the beach to drown some crabs on a skinny water snag. Conditions were a little funky with a huge east swell and hard west wind but made it work. Ton of blackfish although only one keeper and 4 triggers (dropped a few on the surface). Even managed to sight cast a couple spanish macks on anchor.

Great sign of things to come this fall !!!

Solid midsummer plug bite last night. Haven’t been back there or tried it in a few weeks now but we definitely picked back up where we left off. Landed around 20 fish on poppers at dusk and another 20+ on darters and finesse in the dark to around 26”. The insane amount of bait around should keep these fish chewing for a while

Reel 17 Sweetwater!! Fun family getaway for a few days to the beautiful Lake George in upstate NY. Light tackle finesse fishing 25-30’ of water proved to be very productive with tons of bites and tons of quality. Everybody who came out broke their PB largemouth or smallmouth at least once (including the Capt). Can’t wait until next year!! @ Lake George, New York

Been slacking with the pictures lately! Snuck out a couple times for some shallow water bottom fishing and it hasn’t disappointed. Jumbo triggers with a bunch of C&R Blackfish in the mix. Get to keep one of those per person starting tomorrow as well!

NJ Spanish mackerel??? We’re on em! Went scouting today and found a nice pick of Spanish macks and blues close to home. Went in to get some ice and came back for an hour before sunset and went 8 for 12 or so in short order. Best showing of these tasty speedsters we’ve ever seen locally.

Fish were much pickier tonight than last night. The few we were able to entice went for the FishUs Espetit by Lurenzo and Duo’s Realis Fangpop. Was very impressed at how these lures swam we will definitely be stocked up on the Reel 17.

Best topwater striper bite in Reel 17 history!!! The tide was right so I snuck out for an hour with Jason Sokol and we put an absolute hurting on 22-28” fish. Jay at one point went 10 casts in a row with a fish. Stopped counting double headers at a dozen. Landed 20-25 stripers each in 1 hour!! That’s 40-50 bass in ONE HOUR. As good as it gets. Get in on this action you will not be disappointed 732-604-6111.
