For the first time in five years the Pocola Indians will be playing in a regional tournament. To say this team has exceeded most people’s expectations is an understatement and I couldn’t be more proud. 5 seniors who have stuck it out through thick and thin are now receiving the fruits of their labor. It wasn’t always made easy for them, but they stuck by each other and did what teammates and brothers do. On the other end of the spectrum we had 6 freshman coming into their first High School season. At least 3 and sometimes up to 5 of those freshman have started every single game for us and given us a chance to win and compete with anybody. Our other 2 players are the lone sophomore and junior on the team. This is truly a team that every single player has contributed to the success. And we could never forget the best manager in the state Gage!! 13-8, district champs, and headed to regionals. Future looks very bright for these young men!!

Congratulations Mr Pitsco. We were blessed to be able to watch you become the man you are becoming!

Congratulations Mr Pitsco. We were blessed to be able to watch you become the man you are becoming!

Today's first Senior Spotlight is Mr. Trintan Pitsco. Trintan has been a student at Pocola since kindergarten. He said his favorite high school memory was winning the area tournament in basketball last year and the excitement from that victory, which sent the team to the state tournament. Trintan has played baseball for four years, basketball for three years, football one year, Student Council two years, GATE, and National Honor Society. When asked what he will miss about high school, Trintan said athletics and the team environment. Following graduation Trintan plans to attend UAFS for two years and then hopefully transition to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He plans to study exercise science and pursue a career as a personal trainer. Trintan wanted to thank Coach Barlow and Coach Smith saying, "thank you for teaching me lessons dealing with life and becoming a man. These lessons will shape my future. He also wanted to thank Mrs. Barnes saying, "thank you for letting me be myself in your class, you have taught me topics in Anatomy that I never knew I enjoyed."

Mrs. Barnes had this to say about Trintan, "I have watched you grow the last three years into an outstanding student. You are a kind and smart soul. I will miss having you in class."

Congratulations Trintan! Go do great things!

Congrats to this group of young men here. They finished 3rd place in the JH leflore county tournament. Not exactly what we wanted because our eyes were set on that championship. But at the end of the day we only returned 4 starters from last years JH team and this 4 are leading this team with the highest of standards. The 3rd place trophy was won with a 5-1 victory over the lasgest school in the county, by far, Poteau.

Bringing home Leflore county all tournament team honors were Jaxon Adcock, who probably led the entire tournament field offensively, and Ty Jerrell who produces at the plate and defensively. Also have to mention Brock Brittain who pitched a beautiful game tonight vs Poteau holding them to only 4 hits and 1 run!

Again, very proud of this group. They have played 8 games in the last 7 days posting a 6-2 record.

One more brag post for tonight! This one is about a man that I remember from his younger years as he was a freshman when I was a senior, but even though he is a few years younger he is still an inspiration to me and a whole lot of other people in the town of Pocola! We are happy to have this guys son as a member of our baseball program and to have him as a role model for all our young men! Congrats to Chase Smith on another W in the ring tonight!! Even more impressive, this dude is a MMA fighter that is known for his wrestling and he took this kickboxing fight as a challenge and an opportunity to better himself!!! No submissions, no takedown, just a good ole fashioned slugfest! We got back late from our games in Porter and didn’t make the fight, but got to watch the livestream and I couldn’t be more proud of you dude! An entire community is behind you and celebrating with you tonight!!

It has been a long week!! HS played in the county tournament and JH played in the Porter tournament. HS played 4 games Monday and Tuesday making as far as we have in the last 5-6 years. So many compliments from people at the tournament about the improvement in our HS boys and that they are competing very well and trying playing the game the right way. We will go to Gore Monday for a game and play in the Central Sallisaw tourney Thursday through Saturday. Our program has come a long way in the past few years and the future is brighter than ever.

This group of young men below prove the last sentence above to be true. We lost a 1-0 game Thursday in the first round of the porter tournament to a very good 3A Kellyville team. They proceeded to come out and win one game yesterday and 3 games today. In those 4 games we out scores our opponents 42-8! We are so proud of these young men, and the team that they are becoming. Great leadership from our 8th graders and big improvements from our younger and more inexperienced players. They are primed and ready to compete in the JH county tournament next week!!

Finally we have to give a huge shout out to our booster club for providing meals for these young men Thursday and Friday, and to Andy and Bobbi Jones for buying Subway for them today during a long and successful day at the Baseball field!

Very proud of this young man. Ayden Hollan selected to the leflore county all tournament team. He received this award for his pitching performance in game 3 win vs Leflore. He came in with bases loaded, 2 runs in, and 0 outs in the first inning. He ended up pitching 7 whole innings giving up 1 earned run with 8 strikeouts. Ayden has been a great competitor on the mound for us this year and I cant be sure we would have beat leflore without him up there. Congrats Ayden!

Whenever I got the call about nominating a player there we’re 2 that immediately came to mind and I told myself that both young men deserved recognition.

The other was Aiden Howard, he caught 3 out of our 4 games, was 4-15 at the plate with a home run, and threw out 3 base runners. Maybe not numbers that shout all tournament but to be from a freshman it’s pretty darn impressive, with much more to come.

Got the W today 13-0, but even more importantly we were able to honor a man that gave his heart and soul to our community and young people. Carl Taylor coached alot of the young men that are currently in our program when they were in little league including his son Carson. Those boys all thought the world of Carl and he loved all of them like his own. It was our pleasure to be able to present the banner that we will hang on our outfield fence to honor Carl. It was a special day to us to be able to do this for the Taylor family and make sure that everybody know that the Pocola Indian family may not all be related by blood by we take care of our own! Carl Taylor, you will be missed, but never forgotten!!
