It was a roller coaster weekend for the DFR Saturns at Grundy County Speedway Bahama Brackets.
Derek and Buju were both fast right off the trailer on Saturday morning again, with the two sitting #1 and #3 on the qualifying board before Happy Hour attempts moved them down to 2nd and 6th, respectively.
Buju had an electrical issue in lineups for the heat race, losing his radiator fan & the opportunity to race on Saturday night.
Derek was just getting comfortable on the outside, and was moving into the top 3 when the engine let go. He was luckily able to get it off the track, and hopefully saved the block… but that unfortunately ended the 18’s weekend.
Thanks to Dylan Hale and some not-very-fun Dr. Frankenstein work to get Derek’s fan in Buju’s car on Saturday, the 84 was able to start the feature tail on Sunday.
After tight pack racing and a couple early cautions, Buju had moved through the field and was passing for 3rd with almost 20 laps on the board… but contact from another car bent a lateral arm and resulted in another frustrating DNF…
We’ve still yet to make it to a Bahama Brackets checkered flag… but man do we have the cars to do it. And the bad luck only has us more determined to come back and win this thing.
We all had an absolute blast of a weekend, despite the ultimate results. Big thank you to the Swan/Danley group on being excellent neighbors, Kris Kane for stopping in and making sure the 84 was going to be good, the Stremmes for letting us use your pit in the feature, Cameron Priesler for loaning us tools, and everyone else that stopped in & made sure we were good to go.
And, of course, thank you to the amazing sponsors of the #18 that allow us to go live our dreams & chase trophies far & wide…
