Inflammation has a reputation problem.

The wellness industry has spent years telling us to reduce it, fight it, suppress it. What that messaging consistently leaves out is that without inflammation, the body cannot function. Digestion, immune function, muscle repair, cell remodeling of any kind — all of it depends on inflammation doing its job.

The real question isn't how to eliminate it. It's understanding when it's working for you, and when chronic, unresolved inflammation has shifted into something that actively works against you — blunting muscle gains, impairing insulin signaling, suppressing protein synthesis, and accelerating the muscle loss that comes with age.

In her latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Lauren Schultheis, RD, LD and Director of Health Services examines the dual role inflammation plays in building lean mass, what the research says about managing the balance, and why testing — not guesswork — changes the picture.

The longevity conversation has never been louder. CGMs, peptides, supplement stacks, biohacking protocols — the ambition behind all of it is real. But the conversation has a blind spot.

What gets skipped is the foundation: the consistent daily behaviors in sleep, nutrition, movement, resilience, and recovery that determine whether any of those tools can actually work.

In their latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Lauren Schultheis, RD, LD, Director of Health Services, and Andrew Middleton, Director of Exercise & Assessment, examine what the longevity space is getting wrong and what has to come first.

Most people think of flotation therapy as a relaxation tool. The research tells a different story, one about cortisol, heart rate variability, and what happens when the nervous system finally gets a complete break from sensory demand.

In her latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Rebekah Mayer breaks
down the science behind sensory deprivation and what it means for
long-term resilience and recovery.

Your DNA isn't a training plan. It's context for understanding why your body responds the way it does.

Most genetic variants used in wellness testing are low-penetrance, meaning they influence tendencies, not outcomes. Strength training, sleep, recovery, and consistency drive adaptation regardless of what your genetic profile shows. Genetics provide context for those fundamentals. They don't replace them.

In their latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Alexis Allen, RD, LDN, and Rebekah Mayer, Exercise & Movement Specialist examine what your genetic profile can and can't tell you about exercise and recovery — and where the real work actually happens.

When you're feeling run down, the usual move is more vitamin C, more zinc, maybe a vitamin D supplement. It's an understandable instinct, but the immune system isn't a switch one nutrient flips on. It's a network connected to sleep, stress, gut health, and metabolism, and what looks like low immunity is often a sign that one of those systems needs attention.

In her latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Katie Grumbir, RD, examines what actually builds lasting immune resilience.

Most people treat balance problems as a leg strength problem. But balance is primarily a neurological function — the brain is constantly fusing signals from your eyes, your inner ear, and the pressure sensors in your feet and joints to build a real-time map of where you are in space. When any of those inputs shifts with age, the brain compensates, but at a cost to everything else it is managing simultaneously.

The encouraging part: these are trainable skills. They improve when practiced and degrade when ignored. Assessment-guided training addresses them in sequence — sensory inputs first, movement quality second, strength and power third.

In his latest article for WellAdvised by WellWay, Andrew Middleton breaks down the brain-body connection behind balance and what it actually takes to rebuild it at any age.

The recent renaming of PCOS to PMOS is a meaningful moment for women's health. Not because a new acronym changes the physiology of the condition, but because it reflects an important shift in how the condition is being framed clinically and how that framing influences what is emphasized in both research and care.

The condition has been officially renamed PMOS, following a consensus process involving more than 50 professional and patient organizations. For many women, it reframes what normal labs and unclear answers have meant. A normal result doesn't mean nothing is there. It narrows the picture and redirects attention toward what may still need support.

Alexis Allen, RD, LDN breaks down what the name change actually means for women's health care going forward.

If your energy, focus, or recovery feel off, it isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it comes back to whether your body has what it needs to run well.

B vitamins are foundational to how your cells produce energy, protect the brain, and support healthy aging over time. Deficiency is more common than most people realize, and standard lab panels frequently catch it too late — or miss it entirely.

Alexis Allen, RD, LDN, Sr. Manager of Health Services Operations, breaks down the science behind B vitamins and why testing first changes the quality of every recommendation that follows.

Most conversations about women's health in midlife start with weight. But weight can't tell you how much lean tissue you're carrying, how your bone density is holding, or whether grip strength — one of the most reliable predictors of long-term mobility and mortality — is trending in the right direction.

Research shows that the rate at which women lose strength after menopause matters more than where they start. Body composition, bone density, grip strength — these are the markers that tell the real story, and resistance training is the most direct intervention available to move them.

Rebekah Mayer, Exercise & Movement Specialist and Lead Assessment Technician at WellWay, examines why strength training is essential for women over 40 and why knowing your numbers is where it all begins.
