Yesterday, we got to give back to ski racing. The annual PSU Skiing Fundraiser is always a highlight event that allows us to pay back our love for the sport to the next generation of skier. But yesterday was special. I light of Max Martin ‘16 passing earlier this winter. We as a PSU skiing family along with past skiing alumni wanted to find a way to honor someone who loved the sport, his teammates, and loved life.
In honor of Max Martin, PSUs first NCAA Ski Championship competitor, Plymouth State Skiing has dedicated the Plymouth State Skier of the Year award in his memory. The Max Martin ‘16 Plymouth State skier of the Year Award will be awarded annually to the top overall carnival points scoring male and female athletes.
A small act we as a team feels can honor and recognize passion for skiing, excellence in skiing, and love for skiing. Max Martins legacy will live on through current and future generations of panthers. A legacy that brought smiles, laughs, joy, and friendship to so many.
Congratulations to Alvin Guteling and Laurence Bouchard for becoming the inaugural recipients of this award, and on successful seasons. Thank you to our extended PSU skiing family for the support; and to the alumni for showing out in all forms yesterday (be it friends, coaches, parents)!
And thank you Max for reminding us all what skiing is all about: Having Fun!
Max Martin: A Leader, A friend, Forever A Panther
