It's been a heck of a season. As it's winding down I have been reflecting on the thousands of miles in the truck, hundreds of miles tromping through covers. What a year! We hunted in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, and Kansas this season. We harvested grouse, pheasant, quail, woodcock, and rabbits. All 100% wild and on public lands! I am already dreaming of next September.

I shot this deer at 133 yards. I used a shooting device that my dad made me. I am a quadriplegic so I cannot move my arms or legs so I used my mouth to pull the trigger with the device equipped for me. It was a successful hunt that I got to experience with my dad and sister! -Waylon T

Today was a great day. And I needed a great day. Tim Bigham and I was working a mountain side in WV with the dogs hunting grouse. Tim is at the bottom of the hill. Vincent, Katie and I are working across the side. Vincent went on point on the corner of this enormous blackberry briar mound. It was very thick and covered in snow. Then he starts barking and pouncing back and forth. Tim yells, "What is he doing?" I said I think maybe its a c**n den. I hope it ain't a bear! Katie then started bouncing on top of the briar patch. Then Vincent charged inside the patch. I heard him growl. Then I heard a BIG growl! I hit the shock button on the collar to get Vincent out of there. Then something burst out the far side of the mound of briars. Tim yelled, "It's a God damned bear!" Tims dog Pike was running up the mountain side when the bear erupted out of the briar patch. He turned on a dime and ran right back to Tim as the bear charged downhill! It was quite exciting.
After we moved on from there Tim had a grouse flush and missed. Then we worked up the adjoining ridge Katie pointed a grouse and it flushed right at me. It was probably about 5 feet directly overhead, and I got off a quick shot with high brass 7.5's and I am fairly certain the shot wad decapitated it. It was Katie's first successful point and kill of a WV mountain grouse. What a day and what memories were made!

In Ohio, a pheasant hunt can very easily turn into a rabbit hunt. That was the case today. We should have both had limits of rabbits but you know how that goes lol. Any day in the field with one of my sons and my dogs is a great day.

When finishing up on our last field today an old man with an old setter pulled in to talk. We talked for nearly 45 minutes. He was a wealth of knowledge and stories. He expressed how glad he was that there were still people getting out and chasing birds. We agreed that "our kind " is a minority and a dying breed. He commended me for sharing this way of life with my sons. I sure hope when I am 76 years old that I am still out chasing my dreams like this fine gentlemen.

Had a fun hunt today with my son and the dogs. We hunted for 3 hours before we found the grouse. We got into them and he was able to get shots over pointed birds. We didn't connect with any today but had a blast! Katie had 2 productive points and Vincent had several. Can't wait for next time.

I took Katie out by herself ths morning in the rain to work on wild roosters. She did amazing! She pointed and produced the first rooster 40 yards into the field. Worked another one over 100 yards pointing several times before he flushed. I was actually taking pictures of her pointed the second flushed.

I haven't done a very good job of keeping this page updated lately between changing jobs and Covid-19. Rest assured though, we have been after it any time we get the chance. These photos range from September through November, Michigan, West Virginia, and Ohio.

Had a heck of a fun day with my son and cousin on both of their first hunting trips to WV for grouse today.
