Today I learned that you can completely forget about gourd seeds you were supposed to “just soak overnight to soften the shell” for something like 5 weeks, panic, and then throw them in a flower pot and they will still sprout 3 days later…you have to panic first, otherwise this won’t work…

Once the seedlings get a little stronger and get their first sets of leaves, I’ll dig them up and transplant them to the garden. Look at me go, crushin’ this homesteading thing 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Does anyone know anyone who has falcons or something? Trying to find a useful way to deal with our excess cockerels that we hatch out that doesn’t involve raising them up for months just to get a pounds of meat out of one bird…fresh chicks could be much more nutritionally dense locally than outsourced.

Ideas ? Suggestions?

Dan and I are hard at work making sure your holiday dinners are taken care of every day. These poults are being raised on pasture, and supplemented with high quality feed to ensure they get the nutrition they need to grow healthy and large for the table. They are kept safe in this nice, moveable tractor that Dan made, which allows us to move them every few days so they always have access to fresh grass, bugs, and whatever else they can scratch up in the dirt.

Have you ever wanted to raise your own meat birds, (or layers too), but didn’t have the space or didn’t want to commit to a full coop and run? We can build it for you!

We want to make a few more tweaks to the design, but will be offering hoop coop builds *hopefully* as early as this winter. Certainly by spring.

When you’re mama’s favorite freeloader, you get to eat right out of the treat bucket because the bantams are so mean to this sweet, docile, FULL-SIZED hen. I still don’t know if Chug has ever laid an egg. I mean, statistically, she has to be laying. But I’ve never seen the roosters mess with her, I’ve never seen her in a nesting box, I’ve never heard her singing the egg song, nothing. There isn’t a thought behind these sweet eyes, and she just toddles around, happy as a clam to be included in things 😂 Chug is the best hen we’ve ever had for so many reasons, but mostly because she makes me laugh 😂
