This was the evening of the day (and a few tears going by) a week or so ago right after I taught my FINAL SWIM LESSON.
There is never a perfect time to retire, especially after 60 years and over 100,000 swim lessons. I always wanted to finish on a good note and I could not have asked for a better swim lesson teaching day to finish on. I had some of my favorite clients and their wonderful families here, finished on a really high note and feel that I am still at the top of my game.
HUGE THANK YOUS TO: Peg, Jerry and John Kirby, Paul Persons, Kim Kersten and Randy Kerth at the Orinda Park Pool for helping me to get started teaching swimming the right way; Bill and Fred Brown at Canyon Pool for helping me “get it,” (I still have your teaching manual!) Gary Troyer, Penny Dean and Anne Bages at Pomona College for your inspiration and support and Terrapins Coach Paul Stafford (“long legs/loose ankles”). I could not have done it without you.
Thank you to all of the swimmers, young and old and the supportive families and caregivers who learned (or listened to) a lot of water safety and proper stroke instruction from me for 60 years!
I would not trade it for anything!
